skate journal: Longmont spots with Fuzz and Brian (Dec 13)

Posted in Skate Journal on December 14th, 2008 by corpo

Headed to Longmont with Fuzz and Brian on a somewhat warm day in the 50s. We started out at a school with some weird banks. I wasn’t feeling motivated at all and just dorked aorund. Kinda sucked. Fuzz killed it though. We went to the Boulder ditch next. Somehow I had more motivation and ended up doing a backside nosegrind on it. Cool, never done that before. Then I filmed a tiny run that will be in my Off The Couch part. It involves leaves. Neat.

skate journal: Northside with Brian and Nate (Dec 12)

Headed up to Fort Collins with Nate, Brian and Jam. On the way there Jam did a R.I.P. to Turkey D griptape art for me. I’ll miss you Turkey D. Hopefully I’ll have a little memorial up on the site soon enough. Anyways, it was pretty cold and the motivation wasn’t super strong. We kept at it though. I got a couple ollies onto a bank. It’ll be impossible to describe, but basically I ollied out of a little bank onto a bank. Yippe. Brian did it way better. Brian bet me a beer that he would get a hurricane the jersey barrier before I could do a kickflip wallride on this bank to steeper bank, but the jerk did it first try and it was over. All in all a decently fun session, but the margaritas at the mexican joint after made for a super fun car ride home. Thanks for driving Nate!

skate journal: Rampy with Nate. So fun! (Dec 11)

Posted in Skate Journal on December 14th, 2008 by corpo

Nate’s first time at Rampy. We were just getting warmed up when India opened the door and said Ollie threw up again. Ugh! We thought he had this crazy allergy to the masonite or something, but it’s looking like it’s probably just the flu.Anyways, after taking care of that Nate and I got back to skating and wow it ended up being really fun. It was the first time I’ve really sessioned it with someone else for more then a few minutes. By the end of the night I had landed a few tricks I’ve never done on tranny before – nollie pivot, nollie feeble and nollie axle stall to fakie. Nate did a first time ever tail stall backside revert. Other tricks I’ve landed on tranny before, but not on Rampy were front 50 and front disaster. Super fun night.

skate journal: more rampy with Lazer (dec 10)

Skated rampy for about 20 minutes with Lazer.  He killed it once again.  Totally killed it.  Lien air, back smith, fakie ollies, etc.  Dude rips it.  I got an axle stall to fakie and a first time nollie axle stall.  Rad.

skate journal: RAMPY! (dec 9)

rampyrampyHere it is, Rampy!  Skated it for an hour solo style after the kids went to sleep and had a blast.  Either relearned or did axle stalls to fakie for the first time.  Not sure if I’ve landed it before.  Also got a couple weak sauce front tails.  Fun times!

skate journal: It’s snowing outside, but not on my ramp! (dec 8)

Posted in Skate Journal on December 9th, 2008 by corpo

Oh man, I’m so excited I can’t even begin to tell you.  It was dumping outside and I skated for an hour.  Man it was so fun.  I had installed a new light so you could actually see both sides decently.  The warm up time was minimal.  I finally got my fakie stall to fakie thing that I do, front slashes, etc.  Got way more consistent, was able to pump better and not look like such an idiot.  Seriously though, I’m too tall for the ramp, but I don’t care.  Started hucking some back tails, never got close but it was fun.  So insanely hyped on having my own ramp and hopefully finally learning how to skate tranny a bit.

skate journal: southern hills, fakie hardflip, MY RAMP!!! (Dec 7)

Posted in Skate Journal on December 9th, 2008 by corpo

After a long day of working on my garage ramp (sorry no photos yet because my kids broke my digital camera) Jason forced us to go skating for awhile.  We ended up at Southern Hills.  At first I wasn’t into it and just wanted to finish my ramp, but it ended up being super fun.  It was t-shirt weather in the 60s.  Brian ate shit pretty much immediately.  I got a couple krooked grinds on the ledge and was genuinely having fun until I cracked my board on a 360 flip to middle of the board.  That bummed me out and I was totally wanting to focus the board because the crack was really bad, but I ended up just going slow and trying fakie hardflips over and over.  Believe it or not I even landed one.  Rad!  I’m hyped on that trick and would love to start getting it with some speed and pop.  Right before we left Jason and I were dorking on the 2 stair.  Nosestall the top one to back pivot the lower one.  Jason was trying to go to back tail.  It was a fun little session until I did the splits really bad.  Fun.We finished my ramp a couple hours later.  The initial session was Jason, Brian, Lazer, Neil, me.  Brian and Jason ripped it up.  Lazer straight destroyed it.  Everything.  First try.  I was completely blown away. Later on I skated the ramp by myself for about 30 minutes.  Just donig the basics were so tough for me.  It’s such a quick/tight ramp that my tall ass can’t do anything.  I managed to get some of the basics down though.  Feeble stall, halfcab rock, back 50s, front rock, etc.  I could barely even sleep that night I was so excited about the ramp.

skate journal: garage sesh (Dec 4)

Posted in Skate Journal on December 5th, 2008 by corpo

Felt like skating, it was cold and snowing.  So I pulled out the old tape player, an Afghan Whigs tape, a couple beers and skated some flatground in the garage.  I’m sick of trying tricks I can do in my garage because it’s too small and I skate super hella Busenitz fast so I need more room (joke).  I mostly tried switch flips, heelflips and fakie hardflips.  My heelflips have really been sucking lately.  I got a couple and came really close to some fakie hardflips.  Never really tried those before.  Gotta get on it, it’s right there.  Had a blast even if I was spending as much time sipping beer and listenig to grunge.

skate journal: Commerce City park (Dec 2)

Posted in Skate Journal on December 5th, 2008 by corpo

Went to Commerce City with Nate, Neil and Lazer.  The park was actually kind of crowded, but with a bunch of people that were actually skating.  It was cool.  Chris and Chadman showed up.  I struggled on a bunch of stuff.  Couldn’t get a kickflip to fakie on the quick flat bank, couldn’t do a kickflip 50, couldn’t land a treflip, couldn’t land a back tail on the bank, etc.  Played a game of SKATE with Chad and got him to SKAT though.  Toward the end of the session I put down a great feeling 360 flip on flat and it really cheered me up.  That park is awesome.

Omar Hassan still kills it
