skate journal: sucking at the Longmont park (Jan 19)

Posted in Skate Journal on January 20th, 2009 by corpo

Neil, Brian, Jason and I met Bernie at the Longmont park and some Boulder heads were there too.  I started off sucking and just kept right on sucking.  My legs were tired and ollieing onto the little ledge seemed hard.  Brian landed the first 360 flip I’ve ever seen him land.  Jason, Brian and Neil were skating the flat bar and having fun.  I was getting more and more bummed by the minute.  I even pushed my board into a ledge at one point and chipped it a bit.  Ugh.  After awhile I calmed down and just skated the mellow flat bank by myself for a bit.  I had some troubles getting the big board to do a f/s flip, but eventually landed one.  At the end Jason, Bernie and I skated the ledge for awhile and I finally had fun.  I got a run with a back 50, front 50 back 180 out, fakie flip, fakie bigspin and then another run with a back 5-0 then a front 5-0 shove.  The second run was first try.  Rad.  At least I left the park on a good note.

Have I ever told you how rad Bernie is? Oh, yeah, I guess I ramble on about it sometimes so I’ll just stop now.

skate journal: lville park with Ollie and Cooper (Jan 18)

Posted in Skate Journal on January 19th, 2009 by corpo

Exhausted from yesterday I brought Ollie and his buddy to the Lville skatepark in the morning.  They had a blast.  Cooper was falling all over the place.  I was chilling for the most part, but having a good time.  I was having fun ollieing onto the little manny pad then ollieing into the bank.  Trying to get me Neil on I guess.  I tried to grind around a corner over a patch of snow, but never landed it although I did jump into the snow a couple times.  We left after Ollie stomped two body varials on the flat bank.  So rad.  As we were leaving he tried a body varial off the curb and ate it.  Even radder though since he laughed it off.

skate journal: all day skate marathon (Jan 17)

Helped Brian with skate lessons at 10am and brought Ollie.  I went to Louisville first because there was snow and we were to tell anyone to go to Rock Creek.  While waiting I just did a bunch of ollies on the flat bank which was really fun.  So then it was off to Rock Creek.  I myself didn’t really skate much but it was fun helping kids out and watching Ollie cruise around.  While waiting for the crew to assemble Jake, Rob and I played a game of SKATE that ended with me beating Jake on a nollie 360 flip second try.  Stoked!  Unfortunately Brian started with us, but took an absolutely horrible slam on a switch frontside 180.  Next up was Southern Hills.  I was trying to take my new found trick of noseslide 270s to the blue benches, but I never got it.  In fact I really didn’t get much at all.  Jason was killing it though.  He filmed a couple lines.  Brian was still hurting.  Jake, Rob and I played another game of SKATE that went on a long time and was a blast.  I landed my first ever 360 shove it to somehow stay in the game then come back and beat Jake with a fakie bigflip to surprise rollaway aka I didn’t think I had it at all.  Lastly a curb session ensued where Rob killed it with back 270 back tails and I landed a few no comply 270 back tails.  Sean Kelly had showed up at the end of the session so we had to skate more.  Red curbs.  Nate met up with us too.  At first I didn’t think I’d be able to skate anymore.  I ended up getting into a bit of a groove and got a few noseslide 270s.  Fun.  Neil was killing it.  Sean too.  Nate took the worst slam as the session ended.  I need to go back and film a run there.  Fs 5-0 (or slappy tailslide), noseslide 270 then no comply 270 back tail.  Could be rad.  Totally fun day of skateboarding.

skate journal: fun little nighttime campus session (Jan 16)

Posted in Skate Journal on January 19th, 2009 by corpo

Brian, Neil and I headed to campus on a pretty warm night.  There was still some snow around, but it wasn’t too bad.  We kind of dorked our way from the car over to the slappy curbs where we spent the majority of the session.  There is curb cut up the road a little further which makes for a fun line.  Trick off the curb cut, manual or curb trick, slappy and then there is a little gap to ollie up.  Neil was pretty beat from skating all day in the nice 55 degree weather.  Lucky Basterd.  Ha.  Brian had a fun run going.  Ollie off the curb cut, ollie onto curb, no comply tailslide thing, slappy.  Dope.  I had a bad ollie off the curb cut, manual on the sidewalk, slappy, ollie up the gap.  Fun times.

skate journal: red curbs with Jason (Jan 15)

Posted in Skate Journal on January 16th, 2009 by corpo

First red curbs session in awhile.  It was late and cold.  Flip tricks didn’t work.  Long front 5-0s on the curb were though as well as crooks on the ledge.  I was still in the warm up stage and Jason and I started trying noseslide front 270 out on the ledge.  I kept getting close until I finally landed a couple.  Jason was getting so close but landing on both trucks before rotating.  I told him to “just fall on the back trucks”.  Next try as he was getting into the noseslide his front axle goes flying off.  I’m laughing so hard because I pretended like he took it so serious that he loosened up his trucks so the front would come off and he could only land on the back.  So funny.  Too short of a session, but it was cold.

skate journal: Fun times on Rampy (Jan 14)

Posted in Skate Journal on January 15th, 2009 by corpo

Was feeling super exhausted around 9:30 and wasn’t sure if I should just go to bed or maybe skate Rampy.  How old do I sound?  Anyways, I decided to skate Rampy for at least an hour and it ended up being super fun.  The new trick of the night was fakie alley oop back 50s to fakie.  I didn’t get it as good as Jason of course, but it’s a start.  I got my first front disasters in awhile and was doing front smiths pretty easily.  I need to get those longer.  It’s rad having a ramp though.  I didn’t even think I would skate and ended up skating hard for over an hour.

Lazer killed the ramp.  Jake ripped too.  I sucked.  The only good thing was how easy front 50s were.

skate journal: Rock Creek and Lville in the wind with Ollie (Jan 11)

Posted in Skate Journal on January 13th, 2009 by corpo

Ollie and I hadn’t gone skating in awhile.  We went to Rock Creek and there was two other little kids and a dad on rollerblades.  Ollie was hyped because there wasn’t bigger kids to intimidate him.  I was bummed because the dad kept wanting to talk to me.  Luckily Darrin showed up and I skated with him while Ollie rolled around having fun.  I sucked it up on the ramp and am pretty bummed how little Rampy helps me skate real sized ramps.  I slammed hard on a axle stall to fakie.  But in reality I wasn’t skating hard and was tired and cold.  Darrin and I played a game of SKATE that I somehow won.  I landed a nollie treflip.  Sweet.  Then we went to the Louisville park where Ollie just would not leave no matter how much the wind picked up.  Kid smiles more then anyone when he skates.  So rad!  He dropped in in a couple different places in the small bowl.  Sick!  I basically just cruised around not doing anything other then being cold.  Ugh!
