skate journal: downtown denver with carleigh (June 14, 2011)

Had a somewhat busy day at work and was super tired when I got home. Instead of resting I had to unload another 250 boards which took a couple hours then I had to bolt immediately to 303 to sell some of them. I was so tired and barely made it before closing time. After that I met up with the Crisis crew at a ledge for a bit. A couple of the Crisis dudes busted some moves. I kinda posed some hardflips and watched Carleigh stand there and watch her board go into a drainage gutter. It was amazing.

So yeah, we were both already a bit tired, but we headed downtown and had some fun. We started around 17th & Welton and quickly ended up at a tall marble ledge that was absolutely perfect. So perfect it was kinda spooky. Is it a big bust or something? We ended up skating it til we felt like leaving so maybe we got lucky or maybe it’s gonna be a regular spot. I was able to do back noseslide first try then almost every crooks I tried after that. Carleigh pulled some magic out and did a back noseslide yanked up into fakie nosegrind. She didn’t call it in advance, but oh well, it was sick. She also got back nose shove and I got front 50 before getting frustrated wanting to do more.

Next we ended at this metal pole/barricade thing. It’s like a low trash can and I wanted to ollie it soooo bad. I actually almost put it on my list for 40 years, but since it was Denver I decided against it. Carleigh gave a couple goes too, but couldn’t commit. She has the luxury of not knowing how to pose ollies over stuff (I’m seriously jealous) and couldn’t commit. I took awhile to get close and had a couple that were really close. One that I landed on even. Carleigh was stoked for me and yelled loud. It was awesome. I thought I could do it. But between lots of Rockies game pedestrians and me getting tired I didn’t have it anymore. Doh. I’d like to. I did have some good feeling kickflips in between tries as well.

We ended it with a little flatground session. I got quite a few tricks including my favorite which is the fakie bigflip. I know I don’t pop it, but I love the pivot around at the end. Love it. I struggled on treflips and Carleigh got really close to front shove on flat which she’s only done once or twice before.
