TITUS ANDRONICUS FOREVER (with Julianna Barwick and Okervil River) at the Bluebird Theater June 15, 2011

After missing Bright Eyes due to uncontrollable circumstances a week before we decided to spend the $$ and see one of our favorites, Titus Andronicus. After a few poses in the alley this was the best I could come up with. Then we went to dinner.

Liz and I were cheapskates for dinner and shared a meal. We did got all out and get Pabst though.

The first “performer” was Julianna Barwick. She played the worst shit I have ever heard in my life. Literally, the worst “music” humanly possible. It was just her voice, dubbed over and over without words. Just ambient nothing horribleness. Whoever setup the show to have her open for a punk rock band is a moron.

So we wandered around and got a photo op with Mr Titus Andronicus himself, Patrick Stickles! He’s a really nice dude and a nerd! So we love him! We told him he better play loud after that Julianna crap. He said he’d try. Ha.

Titus Andronicus came on and did not disappoint. They played only songs form their latest album The Monitor. It was great.

The crowd up front was a weird one. Punk rock looking dudes with their ears plugged. Pretentious 20 year old hipsters that were annoyed with Titus fans yelling some of the words. It was easily the weirdest billing I’ve witnessed. Titus ruled it though.

The headliner was Okervil River. They were mediocre hipster rock. We left across the street for a drink and then fanned out with the Titus dudes some more. Fun night.

skate journal: flatground then campus with carleigh and jake (June 16, 2011)

After work, a nap, a nice dinner, some basketball with Ollie and some laundry folding Jake and Carleigh arrived around 8 and we skated flat for awhile. A game of SKATE ensued. I managed to win it. Got heelflip, 3 flip, backside flip, fakie bigger flip and a few more. Carleigh almost learned no comply 180s. We posed some more tricks as we debated a spot. Fuzz had said Broomfield was dry and Carleigh and I had already talked about campus so we went there. We started out here at a little curb then two stair. Jake got the ollie, ollie first. Then Carleigh. Then me. Jake added front 180 up the 2. I tried ollie, kickfip, but didn’t get it. Next up we skated the little ledge that is right next to that. Jake and I got noseslides and Carleigh got wrecked trying to front 50 it. She claims that the ledge is easy to skate, but she’s wrong. It’s dark, got a weird approach, and just plain sketchy. She almost got the 50. I got a crooks pop out on it (would rather grind the whole thing). Next we went to the student center. Jake came super close to ollieing up the 4. I got a line of ollie up the two, back 180 down the 2, then ollie down the 4. Carleigh ate shit ollie’ing down the 4 then rolled off in anger. After a bit we joined her down below in the lit flatground area where she was learning 180 no complies ( I think she got one?). I tried a bunch of treflips and to ollie onto the tall planter and survive the skate stopper. Nope. The one time I got on it my front wheels locked in and I went forward. Doh. I slammed a bunch actually. I tired a bunch of 3 flips and fakie 3 flips. Never got the fakie one. After standing at work so much I don’t get as tired out skating anymore.
