skate journal: real short rampy session (Sept 12, 2012)

Posted in Skate Journal on September 13th, 2012 by corpo

Had a few minutes while the kids were finishing up homework before we were gonna play hide ‘n seek so I went out to Rampy. I had to break in some new shoes. Forte Mids by Fallen. Fallen makes a darn good shoe. Anyways I started out kind of doing whatever and ended up trying a f/s halfcab to rock ‘n roll for awhile. Didn’t really get it, but got one with a front truck bash instead of full rock. Oh well, then I did some basics and ended it with a couple first try tricks like front 50 and fakie hurricane as it was time to go hide in closets that I’m too big to hide in.

skate journal: Yellow Curbs with fuzz and dave (Sept 11, 2012)

Posted in Skate Journal on September 13th, 2012 by corpo

Went to Broomfield park pretty much right after work with the rain threatening. Got in a few warm up tricks with John Brandow before the rain kicked in and we went our separate ways. I went to Crisis and met up with Fuzz and Dave and we went to one of the funnest garages ever, Yellow Curbs. Things started slow, but they do for us these days. One of the first tricks that was tried by all was nollie back tail for Jason. I guess I’m the only one that landed one, but it’s a stretch calling what I did a nollie back tail. More like a backside powerslide with a little tail scrape. Fuzz was slamming pretty hard. Dave would slide out all casually. Lots of slappys on the shortest curb went down. Dave learned slappy crooks in under 5 tries much to Fuzz’s disapproval. Ha, the one trick he can’t do. Fuzz and I had a little kickflip challenge up, off, up, off some curbs that he won although I went for b/s flip when I got to the end. Havine the smaller board was nice for kickflips again. I could actually get up the curb when I wanted to. I came pretty close to kickflip up and treflip off. I put both feet on a couple times, but didn’t ride away. Either way hyped I tried that at least. Fuzz tried to get a “Kick back T first T for a B” (translation: kickflip back Tail first Try for a Beer), but didn’t and ended up getting a kick back 5-0 a few tries later. Dave had some smooth grinds, a rad ollie up, back 180 the hard way out of a curb cut. All in all a really fun session with a fun crew. Oh yeah, the only bummer was my knees are pretty arthritic lately and ollie’ing any higher then a curb seems pretty impossible. I pretty much did accidental wallies over parking blocks every time I tried to ollie over one.

Welcome to Null (aka nothing). Connor Grosh!

This is one of my favorite things I’ve been involved in with Null. These dudes are the best. Thanks for being a part of it!

skate journal: streets with connor, bernie, scotty, more and then broomfield park (Sept 8, 2012)

Posted in Skate Journal on September 10th, 2012 by corpo

Feeling kind of sick and lazy I finally headed out as I was supposed to meet up with Bernie and bring Connor to the old Thornton park for a contest. After lots of driving we arrived and the park was a mess. We thought it was a game of SKATE done by Commission, but it was a full on city event. I dorked around a little but when that horribly popular Submlime song “Santa Ria” or whatever came on I had to get out of there. We did. We ended up at Thornton High. I messed around and did some slappys on a curb and a couple flippers. Then we went to a school nearby with a mellow bank and that was about it. We all dorked around on the bank. I was feeling a little odd on my skateboard. Tried kick front tail and didn’t get close. Also couldn’t do no comply bigspin. Next up was 18th & Welton in Denver. Connor got a line while Bernie filmed and I dorked around before Denver Shop, 98% and more crews showed up. It was rad. We went up the hill to the fun manny pad to ledge spot. I sucked. Connor and Bernie were getting close to wanting to film, but we got the boot. We then went to the US Bank brick bank spot. I continued sucking. Connor did some neat stuff and probably felt bummed he has to hang with us sometimes. Ha. Bernie was trying a trick he could do easy normally. Manaual to wallride to manual, but he couldn’t get it. He started betting Scotty who was just chilling. First it started with a beer, then two beers, 3, six pack, 12 pack, 30 pack, 30 pack a handle of tequila, 30 pack and handle and carton of cigs, etc. This escalated to the point where Bernie had to get Scotty escorts, limo rides and hire Jimmy Hendrix to play a private show. It was funny. He did eventually get it.

After dinner Connor and I met up with Fuzz and Dean at the Broomfield park. The Fort Collins dudes were there. Always so rad to see them. I was super tired/sore so kept it really mellow on just the blue ledge all night. Came close, really close to halfcab flip noseslide. That would have made my year. I guess I can say I’m happy to be on a smaller board and hucking tricks I’ll never land. Dean almost had boardslide to fakie on the brown ledge. Fuzz was skating really good again and had some good slams to go along with it. Fun night.

skate journal: flatground for a bit (Sept 7, 2012)

Posted in Skate Journal on September 10th, 2012 by corpo

Had a few minutes before going out to dinner with India and Liz and took advantage of the cooler weather with some flatground in front of the house. It’s amazing how foreign a skateboard feels when I try to start out with ollies/flip tricks. But I did warm up and get a few. Loving the little board. Got one 3 flip, still struggling with that trick. Hucked some sw f/s flips that felt close. Came close to nollie tre and nollie big flip. Then went to dinner.

This clip is so good that even PJ haters like Fuzz were blown away. Note to Plan B: Film east coast PJ. Note to Adidas: You’re blowing it, give this man a shoe.

skate journal: Fuller’s Ramp then Longmont Park with a fun crew (Sept 5, 2012)

Posted in Skate Journal on September 7th, 2012 by corpo

Carleigh, Jake and I pulled up to Dave “Best style of anyone ever” Fuller’s house about the time the sun was setting and quickly hit the ramp for a bit before dark. Carleigh said she was struggling, but it still looked like she was having fun. Fuller was skating good. He has a huge bag of tricks and with that style it rules to watch. Best fakie pivots ever. Jake wanted to bring a couple tricks and did. Back blunt on the coping and parking block side as well as pivot fakie on the parking block. I skated ok. The smaller setup was definitely a little weird on ramp, but easier for throwing into disaster. I put together several of my basics and almost got a front tail on the parking block side, but it was getting too dark.

Off to the park! We got there and the lights weren’t on. Turns out there is some problem and they don’t turn on until 8:22. Carleigh and I killed a few minutes by pumping over the bumps in the kids playground. Then the lights turned on and our crew got even bigger. Add Bernie, Scotty, Colby, Fuzz and Dean. Awesome. We mostly skated the little qp at the top of the over vert and the ledge. I was pretty hyped by the new PJ Ladd clip I’ll post soon so I was trying more flippers then normal. For awhile it felt like I might skate great. Had a line of halfcab flip, crooks, b/s flip on a mellow bank to turn around, front 50 shove, but didn’t roll away. Tight. Jake had a line of of kickflip, crooks, bluntslide the little qp. Dean almost had front 50 front shove. So much was happening I don’t really remember. Fuzz was ripping way hard. Fuller had awesome ollies on the little qp. The list of tricks I almost landed was decent, but I was getting the shaft bad. Oh well. I gave up on the ledge eventually. Jake almost got lipslide to front 5-0. Fuzz literally landed like 30 tricks. Back 50 front 180 out.

We were kinda thinking of leaving, but Bernie was deep into trying fakie 5-0 fakie treflip out. We stayed an extra hour just watching him get close. While he was skating Dean and I and eventually Fuzz and Jake messed around on the little bank. Dork tricks mostly. Dean had a super good back no comply to back tail. The rest of us did some stuff. Bernie ended up getting his trick without a flip. Everyone was hyped for him and we left.

skate journal: Broomfield park with Fuzzerino (Labor Day, 2012)

Posted in Skate Journal on September 3rd, 2012 by corpo

Was supposed to meet up with Riley, Bernie and crew at Arvada park early, but I just couldn’t muster the strength to do it. I was so exhausted from the day before. So later on after a trip to 303 Fuzz and I hit the Broomfield park for a pretty mellow session. We started off goofing around on the quartapotty putting our boards as close to it as possible and going into axle stall. I got about a foot away, Fuzz put it at the very base of the qp. So sick. Then we kinda started doing whatever on the blue ledge and quartapotty. Fuzz got a front blunt on the qp. I was skating kinda pathetically. Legs were beat or something. There isn’t really anything I took from the session as noteworthy. Fuzz had some moves. We played a game of SKATE at the end where I got pink slipped. I blame the new shoes. Ha, as if.

skate journal: Glen The Filmer (Sunday Sept 2, 2012)

Posted in Skate Journal on September 3rd, 2012 by corpo

Up early in the morning at Broomfield park to film a skit/montage of the Null dudes. It was completely epic and one of the funnest things with Null I’ve been a part of. Look for it this week. I briefly skated the park, slammed super hard on a flatground kickflip before filming the Null team skate as good as I’ve ever seen them skate. We went on to film at spots and I had a chance to skate a little near the end of the day failing at nose mannies. Oh I did have a little fun line at Sussex before filming. Ollie a little bump, slide over a speed bump, slappy tailslide to fakie, fakie flip bail. Fun though. So tired.

skate journal: Thornton park fun with awesome crew (Friday Aug 31, 2012)

Posted in Skate Journal on September 3rd, 2012 by corpo

I had the day off work. It was gorgeous outside. I met Fuzz at Crisis then met up with Sam Pino, Bernie, Dean, Ian at the newish Thornton park. I’ve never been there before and well, it rules. The bowl is a bit mellow, but the street stuff is epic. I had was done with the big board and switch wheels back to the 8.125 setup I had. It felt great cruising around the park. Everyone was killing it. Some highlights were Sam’s ollies popped out of banks, Dean boardsliding a round bar and fakie ollies out of banks, Bernie’s front baords down the little rail, Ian ripping quietly, Fuzz destroying everything. I skated hard and was adjusting to the smaller setup. I did manage a slappy back 50, slow front 50 off the 3 stair, noseslide down a hubba before most everyone left. Dean, Bernie and I skated the little manual pad with the wallrides around it. So fun. Bernie did halfcab manual to wallride to fakie. I might have done manual to wallride. Dean came closeish to learning nose manuals. Dean left and I battled quick up to kickflip wallride. Came super close, but never got one. Bernie did a couple fakie manuals fakie flip out. Almost fakie flip to fakie manual. We ended it on the hip where I managed a bigflip and I think Bernie did b/s flip. Fun times.
