skate journal: brief boulder park then research ledge for a couple hours (april 5, 2015 day 92)

best spot

Had a fun Easter morning with the fam. Took a nap then went out skating. I’ve been feeling the warming up on tranny so I actually went to Boulder park. Wow. It wasn’t too crowded when I arrived. I pumped the bowl a few times, hit the mini ramp area a few times. Then a group of helmet wearing kids kind of took over with their stupid game of follow the leader. So I left to the research center. I must admit the PJ influence from the latest NB edit wants me to skate ledges better. I posted up on this ledge and put together several new ones for me at this spot. I started with noseslide. Then noseslide fakie. And then my newish trick of noseslide shove which took a bit. I almost did a few noseslide bigspins out on accident. Maybe I’ll work on that one later. Then crooks and back 50. Then I went for crooks shove which I’ve never done on a non-park ledge before. It took a minute, but I got one. And oh man did it feel cool. Then I went for back 50 shove out. Got the first one, but it was horrible. Worked awhile longer and did a better one. Still not great, but for the most part I’m just happy I’m kind of getting back 50s again. Next up was halfcab noseslide which I did slow. Then I lined things out for a bit. Front 180 up the curb, fakie flip, switch front nose to regs. First try. Horrible. Then front 180 up curb, fakie flip, switch front nose. This one felt pretty cool. Then lined out kickflip up the curb followed by crooks to fakie. That one felt great. I was doing flipppers when going uphill or after lines too. No treflips. Got close to fakie treflips. I had done a few frontside ledge tricks too. Just a few basics because I don’t really like skating this ledge uphill. Last trick was kick back 50. And wow was it a struggle. Like 30 minutes straight and not going fast struggle. The one I eventually got had a hand touch on the wall, but it was locked in pretty good and made me feel good. I left after that feeling pretty satisfied having done 4 tricks I’ve never done on that ledge before. Noseslide shove, crooks shove, back 50 shove and kick back 50.

skate journal: broomfield park and spots with a fun crew (april 4, 2015 day 91)

After another Crisis run on a Saturday morning and chatting with Fuzz for awhile I met up with Dave, Rob, Riley, Garrett and Julien at Broomfield park. My legs had some pain and I didn’t seem all that motivated. Riley was killing it as usual. There will be a couple phone clips on the nullogram with the proof. Dave was doing long back tails on the hump. Garrett, Riley and Julien were skating the double set. Julien got really close to front shove. garrett close to kickflip and treflip. Riley did a bunch. Kickflip, nollie flip, switch flip, switch heel, sw f/s flip, bs bigspin. The typical Riley show. Ha. Rob had a new setup to break in, but he was looking comfy on it already. Really good no comply tailslides. I didn’t do much beyond stuff I’ve done there a lot other then ollie the six stair finally (it’s been a few months) and some fs nosegrinds on the blue ledge. Dave early grabbed and ollied the six stair all easy too.

Then we went to a gap spot for Riley, but got the boot right away and ended up at Safeway. Rob went off with back 180 fakie 50 halfcab out, back 50s, back smith, fakie nosegrind 180 out (I think). Riley did a bunch of basics easy as did the other young dudes. Dave didn’t do a perfect front crooks. What gives? Ha. I mostly just did 50s, a couple front tails that slid a tiny bit and a few kickflip back 50s. Oh yeah and crooks on the lower fence ledge which felt fun.

Lastly we went to the bank to blue bar spot that is nearby. I filmed Riley b/s flip over the rail then he filmed me do a rock ‘n roll kickflip out on the side of the bank. I was super hyped on that. It was a trick on my list. Stoked!
