After work I met Dave and Rob at the dog park on a beautiful warm autumn afternoon. Warming up was a struggle of course. It’s the norm now. I cannot remember the last time I went skating and felt like I could even try a kickflip with the first few minutes of skating. Perhaps I rushed it too much as I took a lot of falls right away. Not painful ones, but with how stiff I still was they hurt more then they needed to. Rob was getting some nice three trick lines going. Back 180, cab, almost halfcab flip. Front shove, kickflip, b/s flip. (I might not have these correct). Dave was doing lots of switch ollies and switch pop shoves. I got close to a lot of tricks, then had a line with heelflip, 360 flip and landed on nollie varial flip that cheered me up. I was trying fakie flip then fakie treflip. Got close to the fakie tre a few times. We played a game of SKATE and all of a sudden I could no longer do a fakie flip to save my life. Ugh. The game lasted a bit. I got a letter on backside flip, managed to somehow defensively do a cab, back 360 slide, I don’t remember the other tricks I got letters on or the last trick where I missed twice and kicked my board. Rob ended up winning and took Dave out with the ol’ pop shove rewind. Dave had hucked a few switch tres before the game and was looking good and went back to battle. I joined him. I’ve never tried that trick that many times. I felt like it is somewhat obtainable, but I would like a smaller board for sure. I did a couple of regular tres after awhile to break up the bails, one of which felt really good. Dave mixed in some switch backside bigspins and got close to that as well. I tried some switch front heels for awhile and they feel really doable and in need of a smaller board. Ha. My board is always to blame! I tried to end it with nollie then fakie tres, but never got the nollie tre and then Dave left so I did too.

Went to the Pearl ledges, Started trying pivot to fakie and realized how incredibly sore I was. So I just did this for about 10 minutes and left. I probably only landed like 3 or 4 of them. I got to see a lady use her phone flashlight to pick her dog’s poop. That was pretty funny.

wallie nollie

After work I went to Crisis and met up with Rob. We rolled over to Safeway. I was not feeling good at all. I had a new board. I setup 8.25 this time for no good reason and I ended up not liking it. I skated it though. I started super slow with “slappy” noseslide variations. Rob jumped on grinds quickly. His back 50s rule. He did some front 5-0s which I haven’t seen him do much. Close to halfcab noseslide shove out. I took awhile to get a back 50 without tic tac’in in it. It felt good. Then we both hucked a lot. Rob was going for kick front noseslide. He got a couple kind of with the back wheels hitting the ground, and close to several proper ones. That would be so sick. I tried kickflip crooks and didn’t get very close then kickflip noseslide and then just kind of got tired. We did some powerslides down the hill and Rob did some wallie nollies while I failed at getting a cool artsy birds eye photo.

skate journal: sunday funday with dave in downtown boulder (sept 25, 2016 day 269)

Met up with Dave around 10am at the Wells Fargo bank. Well, I was there first, but only briefly. I physically felt pretty good, but when I tried to skate it was all wrong. I slammed super hard on a frontside pivot and was 0-4 on kickflips. I came very close to going home. Instead I stuck it out and Dave and I warmed up. It would get better. A lot better. I messed around with blunt tricks (blunt to axle to fakie, blunt to disaster transfer, backside blunt). Dave was doing back tail and back lip transfers. Sometimes were were lining things out. It took me awhile to get a line of kickflip up the curb, backside blunt, then wallie nollie on the big brick wall. I couldn’t do a flip trick there. Had a fun no comply 360 though. Dave’s transfers are so good. Blunt to back d first t. I kind of had another line with a manual next to the ATM machine, ‘slappy’ tailslide the brick curb, front tail transfer the hip. It felt good to street skate again. The brick area is pretty weird for flip tricks though. Dave and I filmed a little. I was happy that my work phone hadn’t gone off. Dave boardslid the big yellow bar. I did the silly grinds on the pole. Dave did the fakie wallride. We had been there a couple (maybe even a few?) hours. It was a blast. Then we pushed over to the red ledge. We normally only last a few minutes there, but I guess since there was a Broncos game we lasted basically as long as we wanted. Dave has the wide trucks and could grind over the skate stoppers. Pretty funny. We were having fun. Dave did a back 50 and I joked that I was going to show him up. I tried kick back 50, but ended up doing 5-0. First try. It felt awesome. I would go on to do 5 of them total, the last one being my favorite. I was in a great mood. I also had front 50 shove, noseslide 270, switch nose shove, the worst front tail attempts ever, couldn’t get front crooks. Dave rattled off tricks too. Front 5-0, back crooks, back 50, back 50 to back tail and super close to front 50 nollie shove out. We kind of good booted. We headed to the teahouse ledge, but on the way we hit a 4 stair. Dave ollied it 2nd try. I bailed a few times and my board went in to the road timed perfect for a car to focus it. NOOOO! Kind of a bummer on such a great day. Or maybe it just prevented me from getting frustrated on such a good day. We went to the ledge though and I watched Dave get his trick. It was rad. Great day.

First time getting my board run over. 😢

skate journal: brief flatground in front of the house after working most of the day (sept 24, 2016 day 268)

randing a kickfrip

Ended up having to work basically all of Saturday. It sucked. Around 6pm I went out for a short flatground session. I was mentally not into it. I wished I had been able to skate all day. I mostly just hucked tricks for awhile. I came really close to nollie flip. Hands down treflip (the originally meaning of hands down. you know, with your hands on the ground). Tried switch front heel for awhile. I didn’t get much, but it did cheer me up to get out at least a little. Oh yeah, I had put some new little 50mm wheels on while I was on hold “working”.

lafayette skatepark colorado

Went to sleep super early the night before which of course meant I woke up super early. I got to Lafayette around 7am and didn’t have to be to work until 9:30. So that was basically two hours. My first goal was to do a legit back noseblunt to disaster. Well that didn’t happen. I didn’t try for too long, but I would come back to it every once in awhile and try a couple. I mostly cruised around hitting whatever I felt like at the moment. Front 50s on the little ledge felt good. At one point I started skating mostly the ledge. I did manual, front 50, front 50 front 180, front 50 shove, front 5-0 and then tried front 5-0 shove for awhile. I would do flatground on the way back. Got to treflip and did a couple bad ones. After the 5-0 shove I tried a long line. I would pump through the snakerun and do the tiniest air over the tiny snowboard jump. Today would mark the first time I actually cleared the 1 foot of flat. It felt cool. Anyways, mega air, kickflip flyout off the bank, front 50 the little ledge, front 50 the bump to ledge. Never got the last 50 and was getting super frustrated. I ended up having to leave before I got it. I did at least get into it a few times. It would normally do a 5-0 on accident though.

#day266 a few quick power slides after a long day at work. Only 100 more days in a row to go!

A video posted by glen gillinghammer (@corpoglenny) on

Worked a long day. There was a tiny bit of light when I got home and I knew I didn’t really want to skate. So I just grabbed my board immediately and did 4 or 5 powerslides in front of the house. Ollie was kind enough to film one so I could post about reaching day 266. “Only 100 more to go!” Ha. Who cares. It’s hard to skate every day. Those slides were fun though.

skate journal: all day marathon of fun. evergreen. denver ramp and diy. solid crew. (sept 21, 2016 day 265)

Had the day off work to skate with Chief and whoever else could make it. It ended up being Chief, Jack, Rob, Fuller and I. While we waited Jack and I played no comply SKATE. We went on for awhile, landing the few tricks each of us did. We had a couple of letters when it was time to go to Evergreen. Jack got me on no comply lazerflip. I don’t remember what I got him on.

Evergreen was empty when we arrived and the temperature was amazing. Jack proved himself the youngest by landing flip tricks over the hip before anyone else had even touched their tail to the concrete. After awhile a couple of other guys joined that were pretty chill and nice. One dude had crazy good flippers over the hip. It’s impossible to remember what all went down. It seemed like everyone was having fun and skating well. Rob had those steezy boneless complys early. Chief and Rob with the back 180s. Jack had done kickflip, impossible, b/s flip and more I can’t remember (because it was totally boring Jack (ha, joking. but i hope you read this)). Dave and Chief worked on switch back 180s over it. I got a crappy b/s flip then a good feeling one. That trick is incredibly fun. I mostly skated the hip. I went on to also land halfcab flip, fakie bigflip, fakie f/s flip and tried nollie treflip for a long time, but never got one. Chief with the long nose manuals. Rob with the lines, manuals and close to halfcab noseslide to manual. Jack kickflip late shove the hip, the gap stuff above first tries. Dave technically landing switch back 3 and cab big spins. So sick. I had trouble getting on the little ledges, but noseslide to fakie off the “big” one was fun. It started to rain as I was getting closer to the nollie tre. Jack and Dave did backside airs.

Then we ate and drove down to Lakewood to his this ramp which was super hard to skate, but super fun. It took everyone awhile to get backside grinds and flow. Well, everyone except for Dave. But he skates there all of the time (or maybe just once). We skated it for a long time. The trick list isn’t very long, but who cares, it’s fun and hard to skate. Chief had lots of front disasters, fakie pops, front tail, close to front disaster revert. Rob had the magic carves through the speed sucking corner and flowed grinds everywhere. Dave “The Dave” Fuller shredded. Grind bonk transfers over the hip, speed lines around the corner, sweepers, 5-0s, etc. I bailed a lot of back 50s and tried to slash frontside over the hip for a really long time. I would eventually get one. It felt awesome. It took Rob doing a run with two of his magical corner carves in it to get me hyped enough. Jack did front 50 over the hip first try, 5-0s, disasters, a lot. We eventually left. Everyone hyped.

We checked out this nearby DIY spot. We felt weird rolling up when they were working on it, but Bochi ended up being really nice and told us what was up. Rob and I were too sore to skate, but everyone else did. Chief had a nice bump out to manny. Jack back lip and front tail transfers. Dave did a backside sweeper. What more do you need to say? Bochi ripped the place. All of the qps are pretty gnarly. Then we went to the Emerica premiere and had even more fun. Great day. Great dudes. Great skating. Dream day.

slappy crook

Went over to the school feeling pretty sore/tired. Didn’t ollie at all. Just spins to stall. Like halfcab nosestall without ollieing. Did several variations. Also slappy crook and slappy front crook. Yippee.

skate journal: lafayette back noseblunts before work (sept 19, 2016 day 263)

lafayette skatepark

Didn’t sleep well and woke up early. Not the best combo. Liz couldn’t play tennis so I went skating. I had the whole park to myself for the hour I was there. I pushed around for awhile, doing the mellow carves that park is great for.

backside noseblunt one foot

Then found the tiniest qp in history and started posing some backside noseblunts. Somehow, someway I was able to kind of pivot off my nose into it. I did a couple and was already happy.

backside nosblunt!!!

But I decided to do it on the worlds second smallest qp as well! Ha, a few minutes later I got one that felt my best. It was actually really fun. I still mostly pivoted rather then ollied in, but whatever. I spent the rest of the time doing wallies on the corner of the rock followed by kickflip or treflip to fakie. Got both, but the treflip was with my hands down. Good thing that’s all the rage these days.
