skate journal: sauls / saulside / chicken bowl / something (may 30, 2017)

Biked over to Saul’s after a nap on a beautiful night. Had a few warm up runs then we went to move a hot tub. An hour or so later we were back and it was time to skate. The crew was Dave, Will, Saul, Peewee and me. Dave killed it. He does so many really long lines now with so many different tricks. The long grinds back 50s and 5-0s out of the hip transfer are amazing. The front 5-0s, the manuals, all of the old school plants. So good. Will is a quiet killer. Front smiths, chink chinks, switch 50s all in long runs with speed. Saul front slashed the bricks first try, long runs of linked slashes done really fast, and can have a conversation doing axle stalls. Ha ha. Peewee rips with a casual style. Lots of ollies, long grinds and flow. The opposite of me. Carve grinds have become one of my favorite tricks ever. I also got some axle stalls, little grinds, and it was really really fun.

Jake and I rolled to 303 then went to Civic Park to meet up with Matt, Nate and Chad. Warming up didn’t go as well as I wanted. I felt pretty sore. I had setup a new board. A Jack 8.25. And it felt good. A setup I was finally happy with the whole day. Jake and I tried to get warmed up on the little ledges for awhile. He got tailslides. I did some switch noseslides. Kickflips and fakie flips happened. Chad then Matt then Nate showed. Nate was killing it out of the gate as usual. Matt missed his first 5 treflips. Unheard of! He would get some of course though. After awhile we went down to the new area which is super fun. I took forever to get a manual then crook grind which Jake did way before me. Nate slammed super hard trying to manual a narrow ledge. Chad did some fast manuals then had some ankle pain kick in and took off. Matt and Nate had quick bonks a ledge and Matt did back tails on the ledge. Matt had another sick line with ollie a ledge then front tail to fakie. I had a really slow line of switch nose jib then nollie front tail. It was fun though. It rained for a bit so we sat in the covered area. Then Nate jumped up after sitting for awhile and wanted to play a game of SKATE. My legs weren’t ready and I didn’t commit to a single flip trick so I was out first. Matt ended up taking it and we were skating the two little ledges again. I got a back 50 and some switch noseslides. It was fun. Nate was doing super fast front tailslides and nollie front 5-0s and nollie noseslides. Jake front tails. Matt was chilling and filming the gnar. Ha. Then we got the boot and checked out the nearby wallies which Nate did. Then called it a day.

skate journal: broomfield park with dave then some safeway blah (may 28, 2017)

Met Dave at Broomfield park on a bright, sunny day. The park was mostly empty when I first got there. I felt motivated, but was on the big setup from the night before (with even bigger wheels) and it felt a little weird. Nothing really stands out, but I did more ollies than I have in awhile. Dave was shredding on a 7.75. Back 50s on the black ledge, front tail on the steep bank, back 50 nollie shove blue ledge, bigspins on flat, front nosegrind the blue ledge in a long line and the sick back nosegrind to end it! We also tried treflips for awhile. I couldn’t put my feet on it, the board would land upside down. I did my first front 50 shove in awhile on the little blue ledge. Had some noseslides on the brown ledge that felt good, struggled on the quartapotty. It was a fun session. Then I went over to Safeway ledge. I had gotten incredibly stiff/sore in the 3 minute drive so I had to completely warm up again. I basically just did some 50s both ways. Front 50s felt really good.
