skate journal: berthoud park battles with dave on a beautiful day (oct 20, 2017)

Had the day off work and went to Berthoud park on an absolutely gorgeous day. And I mean like as perfect of a day as they come. Sunny, warm, tiny breeze. It was amazing. I got to the park first. Initially I wasn’t too hyped on the park, but it changed quickly. I had an idea of doing all 8 180s over the hip as a warm up. It didn’t really go like that though, I started with lines that involved other stuff. Ride off a curb, wallie a parking block, boardslide. I had gotten a few of the easy 180s when Dave showed up and I told him the drill. Ha. We both went after the 180s, but definitely skated other stuff too. I spent awhile on a line of front board a flat bar (the first few seemed okay, then they got worse and worse and shorter and shorter), ollie to fakie on the bank then f/s halfcab over the hip. I got a terrible one. I might have lined that out with a nollie back 180 over the hip that felt really good though. Another line was kickflip over the b/s hip, crooks the ledge, ollie to fakie on the bank then switch back 180 over the hip. I never really got it, but I think I met the minimum requirement of a ‘switch back turn’. Dave had switch back 180s pretty consistently though and was trying lines that started with the two regular 180s and worked his way up. The nollies to fakie on the qp were rad. Then became battle time. Dave’s battle was front lip on the little round bar. His hype line to it was amazing. Front 180 a parking block then fakie tail stall with a shove out. See that’s why I love skating with Dave. We’re at a skatepark with all these features and he’s trying a line over and over that has a fakie tail stall shove out in it. So awesome. He would get it of course and it was sick. My battle was front 50 the ledge then b/s flip over the hip. I’ve been struggling with front 50s for quite some time now so this was way more of a battle then it needed to be. I do feel like doing so many front 50 attempts helped me with some confidence, but we’ll see. Anyway, around an hour later I would eventually line up the 50 with the b/s flip and it felt oh so good. Dave had gotten another line by then which was pretty amazing. Nose manual the main ledge, pivot the qp, front axle the bank to ledge. Unreal. I posed a few 360 flips over the hip, never committed. Came close to halfcab crook the tiny ledge, remotely close to b/s axle on the bank to ledge. I hit a point where I was so tired and sore. I tried some cabs over the hip, but never got one. The energizer bunny known as Dave kept going and going though. He was still trying lines with hippy jumps over the A rail when I said I needed to get going. Fun session, things didn’t come easy, but they did come so that’s cool at least.
