skate journal: Brooklyn banks and granite ledge curb spot (sept 14, 2025)

Posted in Skate Journal on September 24th, 2025 by corpo

On a warm Sunday I took the subway to Brooklyn banks.  I arrived to a crew having a session.  They were all nice, but I didn’t want to immediately jump in the mix with them.   So I skated to shortest part of it.   I did a couple of ollies but then could not kickflip to save my life.  Never got it.  I went to do the Wallride spot but I kept slipping out.   I got frustrated and left.

Played skate tourist for a bit and looked at courthouse and Blubba.

Then went to a granite ledge and had fun there.  Did some noseslides on the tall part, some crooks too.  Also 50s each way on the curb.   Cool spot.

skate journal: rockaway skatepark in new york (sept 13, 2025)

Wrote some notes 11 days ago after the session, but it was such a long trip I almost forget it entirely. So here’s my notes.

Less flow than it looked.  Quickly flooded with kids; most of which skated.  First thing I liked was noseslide to fakie triangle then fakie flip on bank.   Had some crooks on the low ledge, noseslide into the bank, kickflip fakie a mellow bank, took too long to fakie bigflop over a kicker.  Ended on a line of switch 180 the kicker, slow front 50 the low last ledge then a terrible bs flip on flat that somehow got a cheer from the one good skater there.

skate journal: crowded boulder park with dave (sept 11, 2025)

Posted in Skate Journal on September 11th, 2025 by corpo

After my last day of work in a long time I went to Boulder park to meet a dude buying a board. I told him to look for the oldest person there, but Dave came and blew my cover. It was kind of crowded so I mostly just hid in the tight tiny qp section. And it was really fun. I would get the little line a few times of back 50, rock fakie, fakie front 50 fakie. I don’t think I’ve done fakie 50 fakie like that before. Not sure it counts on such a little qp, but it was fun. Dave did some coolness too with front 5-0s on the barrier and then blunts on the smaller qp. Then worked his way up into full speed blunts with Tom Penny steeze after. After that the park had died down a bit and we mingled outside of the tight qp area. I did a couple bench tricks including a first try front 50 that made me happy. Dave and I had some front 50s on the hump to ledge. Dave did a bunch and backed them with shove on the hip bank and switch front nose and halfcab nose. He also got manual and nose manual on the hump to triangle. I got a front 50 on the bump to ledge, but couldn’t back it with a b/s flip over the hip. There was more, it was a pretty fun session.

skate journal: fairgrounds round 2 with dave (sept 10, 2025)

After work met Dave at the fairground bank to curb spot. After some initial struggles things worked out pretty good. I went in on some lines. Got kickflip on a bank, noseslide to fakie, kind of a fakie/halfcab flip. Nollie bigspin then alley oop no comply to tail. Varial flip then slappy crook. Slappy crook then b/s flip kind of over a crack. Dave had some bangers. Back 50 to fakie off the front truck, switch slappy crook, slappy crook fakie, really good nollie back tails, front 50s, front 5-0, front tails. Ripping. I tried some treflips on the bank, but never got my feet on one. Still felt to get to the point of trying it at least.

skate journal: broomfield again after work with garrett (sept 9, 2025)

After dinner on a very nice evening I went to Broomfield and met Garrett. A few others were at the park, but it would clear out and only a couple others. I got there first, warmed up on the on the bank to curb, some quarterpotty, no pop tricks on the lurb. Garrett showed and I tried to back 50 the lurb before he started skating, but I lost. I did get one though and it did feel good. Garrett went straight to ripping. Halfcab nose manual revert, kf manual, kickflip nose manual. Garrett also killed the black ledge. Halfcab crook 180, sw crooks, kickflip 50, pop shove 50, so much. I struggled initially, but would end up getting several front 50s, even several in a row, a shove out, and one followed by a noseslide on the bump to bar. I was happy about that. Justin showed and went demo mode. I managed a very slow front 50 on the ledge into the bank. Garrett had so many good back tails and then a b/s flip out of the happy ledge that was so good. At the end I made myself do 5 flip tricks. I came somewhat close to some harder ones, but ended with the basics: kickflip, fakie flip, halfcab flip, b/s flip, fakie bigflip. Fun night.

skate journal: broomfield park with a fun crew (sept 7, 2025)

On a warm Saturday I met Kyle and Brian at Broomfield. Taylor was there initially. Some other older dudes too, some youth. After a while Donnie, Dan, Garrett, Joe too. My warm up wasn’t good, I was really struggling. Kyle was doing flippers so easily. He rips. He did the manual revert fakie manual then filmed it for a long time. I had done some boardslide transfers, but never got the manual out. Had some okay crooks and basics for me, hurricanes on the bank to curb. Did a line of hurricane, crooks the black ledge, front 50 shove the blue lurb. Brian low qp to high rock to fakie, almost blunt on the high, one footed front rock, landed on impossibles. When we got wind that the 98 dudes were showing Kyle and I hucked. Kyle was doing cool lines front nose jib off the 3 stair, nollie heel, almost treflip noseslide. I hucked a lot of halfcab heel noseslides. They were somewhat close at time, it feels very possible. That would make me so happy. Dan front boarded the double set. Garrett kick back tailed and threw his board into the tree. Donne nollie sugarcane was sick. I tried to treflip the mini board and failed.

skate journal: broomfield with will then a couple random og broomfield spots (sept 6, 2025)

Posted in Skate Journal on September 7th, 2025 by corpo

Went to Broomfield park after breakfast with the family. Will was there, not many others. Will did some manuals, nose manuals, switch manual, halfcab manual. All while failed to do a manual. I don’t remember much else for me, I didn’t land anything and we quit our game of SKATE since neither of us could land anything.

I proposed Safeway ledge as the dumpster was recently removed blocking the og ledge. Oh yeah, I was in a lot of back pain at Broomfield so I switched to 440s and liked them more. Weird. Will tried a couple front tail then bounced. I did a few back 50s that were really fun because it’s the only ledge I can back 50. The ground is pretty bad now, but the ledge it still okay.

Next I went to an old bank spot I haven’t been to in a few years. Maybe a decade I don’t know. It was fun though, I made myself do 10 tricks. Most were pretty easy, but it was still fun. Actually I think they were all easy, but the f/s flip took me a few tries. I tried to end it with a fakie treflip and got kinda close. Would like do get one of those!

skate journal: fun random after work lafayette with dave (sept 5, 2025)

Posted in setup change, Skate Journal on September 6th, 2025 by corpo

After a work luncheon I met Dave at Erie park on a cooler day. It was actually kind of mellow as far as Lafayette goes. Seemed like we both started off kind of uninspired, but we would do some stuff. I had a setup change so was getting used to that. This is the one. Ha ha ha. 8.5 14.25 Thunder hollows. Dave had some nice tailslides on the mini qp. I had some fun wallies on the corner rock. We hit the little ledge up top for a while. Dave ripped it with noseslide to manual all the way to the bank multiple times and I think lined it out with a kickflip out of the bank. I did some okay front 50s for once, after multiple accidental 5-0s of course. Had front shove out and front 180 out too, but not to manual or even manual on the top. Dave also got switch front crook! I tried sw noseslide kickflip out and kf crooks but was not close to either. Dave came super close to a treflip out of the bank! Down to the spine area, Dave had some cool transfers in between flyout kids pushing through. I took a while to do an easy feeble stall then noseslide half of the hubba. Took a while to do fakie flip on the mellow bank then noseslide the hubba. Hucked a couple fakie tres. Back to the rock area Dave was lining out bigspins and front tails again. I managed a bad bigflip on the bank. Not too shabby of a session all things considered.

skate journal: longmont safeway struggles after work (sept 3, 2025)

Posted in Skate Journal on September 6th, 2025 by corpo

After work went to the safeway curb spot Dave had recently fixed up. I proceeded to completely suck and feel so off on my skateboard. Rob stopped by on his bike and said hi which was cool. Dave had some good grinds. Back 180 fakie 50, slappy crooks, 50s, 50 to noseslide. I had a couple mid flippers, slammed on a noseslide, couldn’t commit to 50s. All that said, I’d like to go back and skate it again.

skate journal: frederick mostly filming with noe, hayden and bo (sept 1, 2025)

Posted in Skate Journal on September 2nd, 2025 by corpo

Feeling soooo sore I went to Frederick to meet up with Noè, Hayden and Bo. I had the park to myself for about an hour. Well, a kid on a scooter with her parents following her everywhere. I actually got the body working a little. Did some front and back 50s on the curb. Some bad crook on the ledge. Had some okay back 50s on the bank to curb, kickflip on the hump. After the dudes got there I mostly just filmed which was good because I was so sore.
