skate journal: garage setup madness (march 26, 2018)

After flatground with Jake I had some madness going on. Not being able to land treflips or nollie treflips got to me. I knew I wanted to setup an 8.25″ for my next board, but wasn’t sure if I wanted to put the bigger trucks on. And since I’m leaving for Seattle in a day I had to figure it out. So I setup two 8.25s out of old decks/trucks/wheels in my garage. One with the lows I’ve been skating with the 8.1, and another with the wide trucks. The board with the lows was in somewhat decent shape, but the board with high trucks was terrible, warped and delaminating. I went through trick by trick comparing the two. At points I thought for sure I would stick with lows, but then the highs would feel better for the next trick. I did a kickflip on the low board and got real bad wheel bite and slammed. That kinda changed everything as I was sick of that. I had a good heeflip with the highs, came closer to tre and nollie tre, but couldn’t make halfcab heel seem possible. I could with the lows though. I had better ollies with the lows and their quick snap, but I went in after awhile and setup a new board on the 5.8 wides. Just in time for Seattle. Whew.
