skate journal: super early new boulder park addition (june 15, 2021)

Got up super early to beat the heat and biked to Scott Carpenter. It was 66 when I got there before 7 and it felt really nice. It would get hot quickly, but not 100 degrees hot. I had the park all to myself for the first 30 minutes and proceeded to stumble around unable to pop or land anything. Luckily my body would eventually get going and I had some fun. I tried to skate it differently and figure out some of the basics I’m too embarrassed to do when others are around. I was finally able to ollie up the euro pretty well. It should be easy, but it weirds me out beyond believe. I eventually started doing some basic crooks, noseslides, front 50s on the ledges. Then I took a bit to get a really fun line. Backside ollie the hip, front d the long qp, front 50 shove the bench. A few others had shown. I got a noseslide to fakie on the bank to ledge, crooks across it, accidental front 5-0, I couldn’t get a backside flip over the hip to save my life though. I think it was a little too early for that trick. I finished by finally managing the weird angle to halfcab noseslide the bench with. It was a fun time, I really like the new stuff. I didn’t really skate any of the old stuff once again, although I did take a couple warm up pump runs around it.

skate journal: broomfield then rhino null sunday (june 13, 2021)

On a hot morning I met up with Rob at Broomfield park.  Sean would arrive after a bit, Jack, Bo and Garret later on.  Rob and I were both pretty sore from all the skating the day before, but we pulled through and seemed to skate pretty well.  We also seemed to skate it in different ways.  Unfortunately I don’t remember many tricks.  Rob did a no comply to backside manual on the blue bank which was new for him, crooks, halfcab boards, no comply boards, halfcab noseslides, manuals and I think nose manuals, back 50 no comply out, lots of Rob goodness.  I started getting good feeling crooks on the up ledge and lined it out in different ways.  I got one really bad f/s halfcab noseslide and one treflip.  I had some heelflips in there too and my pop felt alright and I was able to 50 and ollie onto ledges.  Sean showed then him and I played a game of SKATE in which he pink slipped me quickly.  I got several letters on tricks I had already done.  Oh well.  Jack, Garrett and Bo showed.  Bo had brand new shoes and busted the best treflip.  Jack didn’t skate really because his knee was hurting.  Garrett’s smoothness is incredible.  Sean worked his casual ledge magic.

Then we went to Emage and then the newish Rhino spot.  It was HOT!  Mid 90s hot.  Luckily there was some cloud cover at times.  We found a weird bank to garage door under construction and wedged some metal between the beams and had a really cool bank to flat bar spot.  Bo tried a few front smiths on it before grabbing the camera and filming.  Jack tried to get his knee working without much success, but still did a sick back feeble front 180 out.  Sean lined out the spot with an amazing heelflip and tailslide.  Garrett went in on front hurricanes.  It’s funny because we were talking about him doing it in a line once he figured it out.  Two hours later .. he landed the single trick.  Ha.  He battled, it was hot, he’s a champ.  Since Bo was filming I kept skating even though ollies or flippers weren’t really working.  I had a fun line of noseslide to fakie, switch 180 then the worst attempt at a crook ever.  There were maybe a couple that weren’t as bad as the one that was filmed, but they were all bad.  I also had a fun ride along a ledge with a bunch of skate stopper holes in it.  Bo would later basically do it first try, but that’s Bo.  I was hyped when I finally rode out of it. After Garrett landed his trick we called it a day.
