skate journal: christmas day garage minimum (dec 25, 2016 day 360)

Posted in Skate Journal on December 26th, 2016 by corpo

For day 360 in a row I really wanted to do a 360 flip. But the wind kicked in something fierce and I ended up having no time. So I just went into the garage and did a few no ollie manual tricks on the sheet of wood.

skate journal: dave and i sucking at dog park (dec 23, 2016 day 358)

Man. I met Dave at dog park. I first few pushes hurt, my first few ollies even more. My knees were absolutely killing me. I probably should not have skated, but it was super nice out and Dave drove all the way in to skate. Dave rode my putter for awhile as he’s determined to land a 360 flip (switch). Dave was in a lot of pain too. For a brief period I was getting into a little groove where I could actually do kickflips, fakie flips, 180s and pose other tricks. I literally did not land anything beyond that. I came somewhat close to switch flip. Tried a bunch of switch front heel. But for the most part again I just thought about how I can take some days off of skating soon. Dave tried a lot of switch tres (he still thinks it would be easier switch), skated my 3 iron and got a solid heelflip. That heelflip would stand as the most tech trick of the day. We both stopped with plenty of sunlight left. That’s when you know we were in a lot of pain.

skate journal: louisville cold blah (dec 22, 2016 day 357)

Went to Louisville after a pretty long work day and some other stuff with Jason and then dinner. The park was empty and I had to turn on the lights. The temp was in the upper 20s with an extra chill to the air. I hadn’t really skated in awhile and I was not looking forward to the warm up process. I also may have finally hit the burn out stage of skating every day. I just think about how in 10 days I can take some time off from skating. Not a good thing to think about when your cold and skating by yourself. I did get a little juice though. Tried a few lines. First was noseslide on the ledge, roll down the bank to frontside ollie the hip then noseslide the bank to ledge. Got that. Then crook, ollie, nose jib to fakie. Terrible back 50, ollie kickflip on the bank. Tried halfcab noseslide, ollie, back 50 on the bank to ledge, but couldn’t get the back 50. Going the other way I struggled incredibly with front 50s. My legs got sore. I posed a few flippers here and there, but I ended up leaving.

skate journal: depression minimum (dec 21, 2016 day 356)

Feeling physically terrible after a long day of meetings and stuff at Jason’s I went to the research ledge thinking I would maybe get motivated. Nope. Rode down these stairs a few times as “warm up” then just left. My legs were killing me.

skate journal: brief slappys on an 80s board at crisis (dec 20, 2016 day 355)

Jack and I dorked around on this weird board. My legs were incredibly sore. Thanks to Jack’s filming I now realize my front slappy is not a real front slappy. This is why I should avoid seeing footage of myself.

skate journal: garage minimum before the nuggets game (dec 19, 2016 day 354)

After a busy day at work and a quick bite I went into the garage and did about 5 “manaual” tricks on the sheet of wood before heading out to pick up Zach for the Nuggets game.

On a sunny, but cold day I went to Redder curbs to meet Dave. Outside in the sun it was bearable, but everything was covered in snow. In the garage it was frigid. But we skated. I had thought of a line there and my whole warm up process was basically geared at it. It’s all simple tricks, but I had thought about it anyway. I got it. Kickflip the curb, front slappy the parking block, front 50 the median past the parking block, slappy crooks. I ended up trying it over and over and Dave ended up filming me. It didn’t take that long, but I switched the front 50 for 5-0 and added a slappy on the parking block then a back 180 over the parking block I started on. I was hyped. I had also done a few slappy front crooks earlier. Dave did a first try back 180 fakie 50, long back 50s through the kinked curb, tried to no comply both parking blocks, slappy crooks to fakie on the parking block, a bunch more. Near the end we were trying tricks on the stand alone parking block. Dave’s switch no comply is ridiculous. I got a couple no comply flips and helped coach Dave get the one he did. Then the day was over.

Oh man, totally forgot that before all of this I went into the garage to try nollie frontside flips again. I might have tried 5 of them before I stopped and told myself I would rather just lose the game of OLDFART. I want to go into 2017 with no skate goals other then to skate less, skate better and have more fun.

skate journal: nollie frontside flip bails in the garage (dec 17, 2016 day 352)

Went into the garage on a super cold and snowy day. Had the space heater cranked. Did a few warmups then tried nollie frontside flips for a long time. Got close. Took a break. Tried again. Got closer. Felt frustrated and over it. I would try on my normal 8.38 setup most of the time and when I would start to not get close I would try my luck on the putter. Sometimes I got closer. Normally about the same.

On a lazy Friday night I went out into the garage for a minimum. Knees were still burning. Did a few basic manuals on the sheet of wood.
