skate journal: rainy day square state with brian, kyle and christian (april 26, 2026)

Posted in Skate Journal on April 26th, 2026 by corpo

On a rainy day we met at Square State. I wore some gamechanger insoles, took a while to get used to reduction in board feel and arch support. I mean all I really did was a second try kickflip up the euro, a kickflip to fakie up the two levels, almost a b/s flip up the euro. Kyle had some amazing kickflips to fakie grinds on the edge of the upper level. My foot really started to hurt so I just sat and filmed. Brian went in hard on impossibles and never quite got one. I really wanted to see it. Kyle had a really good treflip and bigflip before going in on big heels and would get like 10 of them. Christian though, would do so many fakie tricks like first try halfcab heel, f/s halfcab heel, rick flip, fakie heel, kickflip, back heel, impossible, and probably a lot more.

skate journal: some random boulder spots mostly banks (april 25, 2026)

Posted in Skate Journal on April 26th, 2026 by corpo

On my 28th anniversary I had a couple hours to skate and chose to hit some random street spots. Kind of had no idea, but just wanted to head out to Araphoe and find something different. And I got lucky finding a new spot. But wow it was weird. steeper concrete bank, mellow asphalt hump. I don’t know it was really hard to find a way to skate it. I did try a line for a while of a flatground fakie flip then the switch nose jib then varial flip after riding down the bank. Didn’t get the varial flip, but the fakie flip was a struggle so I moved on. The kickflip onto the upper level was way harder than I thought it would be. Took me quite a while. Then I went to the next spot. Did a couple basic stalls and the b/s flip. Did a few weird front 50s on a curb nearby that were not cool or fun. Then a nose slide at a nearby angle iron spot that could probably be waxed up and better than it is. My right foot was really hurting by the end. Fun day though, fun night with the Mighty LZA.

skate journal: denver park before the nib premiere with garrett and cass (april 24, 2026)

Posted in Skate Journal on April 26th, 2026 by corpo

Met up with Cass and Garrett at Denver park of all places. It was popping, took a while to even remotely get going. Cass was trying harder stuff quickly though tried to front shove the wedge drop. I had some fun on the east side lining the ledges. Did noseslide to fakie the taller one then switch front nose on the lower ledge. Then noseslide to fakie followed by a terrible halfcab noseslide. Got a few crooks on the taller one too before a crew of bikers decided it would be a good place to eat dinner. Garrett had crooks easy, back tails. We played a game of SKATE in the main area. I was out first, slammed hard on a pop shove of all things. Cass landed a lot of tricks, but Garrett matched hardflip and went on to take the win. Then we had a really fun night at the NIB premiere.

skate journal: light slappy night (april 23, 2026)

Posted in Skate Journal on April 26th, 2026 by corpo

Was tired after some early morning work callouts, but it was so nice out so I wanted to skate. Went to the slappy curb across the street before dinner. Mostly just did slappies, a couple ollies into grinds, a kickflip or two. Got slappy front crooks and regular backside slappy which have gotten so hard for me.

skate journal: more downtown boulder lotta spots and some fun (april 22, 2026)

Posted in Skate Journal on April 23rd, 2026 by corpo

Went downtown around sunset after a long day of work. Started at Canyon Center. Felt very off. Did a really silly warm up line of nollie back tail a weird curb, wallie nollie, noseslide a terrible bench, nollie front tail a curb. Moved on to the little ledge by the old Med. Did some nose stalls and got some axle stalls both ways. Cruised around for a while, ended up at WF banks. Did quite a few basics before trying the back 50 revert to halfcab flip. Which took too long, but it felt really good to do. While trying it a WF night guy talked to me about Rodney Mullen and how he used to skate. It was cool. The blunt to axle to then b/s flip was pretty quick. After that went to the Canyon ledge, but it just hurt my feet and I went to leave. But I saw the weird window sill that I wanted to ride around. It did not come easy and I had multiple silly falls like that. I wasn’t going to film it because I thought it was too dumb (which it is), but at least the slam is funny. All in all a fun night, street skating is so rewarding.

skate journal: dog park with jake, will, alexi and a treflip! (april 20, 2026)

Posted in Skate Journal on April 21st, 2026 by corpo

After work met up with Jake and Alexi at dog park. Will showed. Saul said whaddup. Nick was there hucking varial heels. My foot was hurting initially. Jake was skating the barrier and trying treflips. Alexi was landing on halfcab heels and saw some front 50s later on. Will switch manual the low pad then higher pad back to back was so good. Jack and I tried boardslide then crooks which I got. Also I ollied the grate then crooks then b/s flip on flat. Tried a longer line starting with crooks on the backside of the two step, but never really got it. Jake had some long crooks on it. Then we played treflips at the end. I got a bad one, but it’s the first in a while so I was happy. Then we went and had a nice dinner.

Oh yeah, I wore Splays again and it’s crazy how much less overall pain I had.

skate journal: dog park and a little northside (april 19, 2026)

Posted in Skate Journal on April 21st, 2026 by corpo

Went to dog park waiting for people to assemble for a foco run. Was hyped to see Collin there. Ted arrived after a while. I started very slowly and felt really off on my board. My feet felt terrible in the 440s, switched to Vans wafflecups then to fastbreaks. Kinda did some whatever stuff but was very hyped on a first try front 50 on the wood ledge. Although I couldn’t do it again. Was cool seeing Collin ripping, he was skating fast. Ted had some good flippers. Later on at Northside we all watched in amazement as Noè did like 100 tricks in 5 minutes. I did a sketchy bigflip on the bank, that was it. Filming after that did not go so well.

skate journal: decent broomfield but no treflip (april 18, 2026)

Posted in setup change, Skate Journal on April 20th, 2026 by corpo

Let the temp warm up a bit and the snow to melt. Met up with some dudes at Broomfield. Gordon, Cass, Will, Eric, Steezy. I had a setup change and when I put it down to roll across the park I really liked how it felt. 8.3 with venture v8s, 53s. I went on to have an above average session especially by my recent standards. I had a first try front 50 on the black box. I would go on to get several 50s. Had a line I really liked. Front 50 shove out the black box, halfcab flip on the bank, switch front nose the black ledge. Cass told me to keep going, but I was too happy. I would also get a very slow and sketchy front 50 on the ledge into the bank which I haven’t done in quite a while. Gordon had nollie front 5-0s, nollie back 50s and got back 5-0 front 180 out. Cass had an off day, saw some good crooks though. Will almost did nollie front 180 nose manual. Eric had some front tails and several heel flips at the end. Even some back heels. I couldn’t get a treflip to save my life. Doh.

(setup 8/10 8.3 keyhole 2, cheap pepper grip, venture 5.8 v8 titanium hanger ace bushings, 53mm snot franky wheels 99a, new balance numeric 440v2 high black size 12 half insole and currex runpro insoles)

skate journal: downtown boulder kinda meh kinda fun (april 16, 2026)

Posted in setup change, Skate Journal on April 17th, 2026 by corpo

On a surprisingly nice evening I went downtown with the main goal of skating the newish ledge. I parked by it, did a couple of noseslides and moved on to get warmed up before coming back. Ended up at the nearby alley with the bolted red metal ledge. Did a line of 180 on the brick to concrete bump then switch front nose. Tried nollie front 180 to start. Totally did the splits right in front of some people. Somehow it didn’t hurt at all. I had a setup change which may have contributed to the problems. 8.3 with slace. Mostly disliked it. Did get some nollie 180s and tried to follow with halfcab nose, but the darkness was too weird. Went over to WF and had some fun on the qp. Although the front pivot fakie took way too long and gave me a hot pocket as I kept slipping off the griptape. Went to the ledge, had some fun noseslides. Took too long to get a crooks and was reminded how little I like ace/slace. So yeah, not the best night didn’t do a single flip trick. But street skating is always at least a little rewarding.

skate journal: nice morning but more frustrations with front 50s (april 15, 2026)

Posted in Skate Journal on April 17th, 2026 by corpo

On a beautiful morning I stopped by Boulder park on the way into work. There was a few youth skating/scooting, but would leave shortly to go to school. I had an okay start. Was really bummed to ghost pop some ollies to fakie. Pretty early on I almost did a front 50 shove first try. So I set up the phone and of course could not longer front 50. Got so mad, depressed, sore.

(setup 2/10 8.25 null kaleidoscape, pepper cheap not so good grip, venture 5.6 v.8 hollow hangers ace bushings, 50mm spitfire f4 101a tablets, converse fastbreaks grey size 12 with half insole and currex runpro insoles)
