skate journal: one of all flip tricks in the garage (feb 3, 2016 day 34)

Posted in Skate Journal on February 4th, 2016 by corpo

Went out into the garage not very inspired and wanted to have a quick session. I randomly decided to huck 1 of every basic flip trick there is. Starting with kickflips up to big heels. I got kickflip, fakie flip out of the kickflip group. Backside and frontside flips, b/s halfcab flip out of 180 flips. No heelflips. No heelflip 180s. No varial heels although switch varial heel was somehow close. Landed 360 flip and varial flip. Fakie bigflip. Hardflips nope. Big heels nope. It was actually pretty fun. I bet I’ll never get close to switch varial heel again.

skate journal: more sweating in the garage (feb 2, 2016, day 33)

Posted in Skate Journal on February 3rd, 2016 by corpo

Went out to the garage not feeling so motivated about having to skate there again. I mean I guess I could hit a parking garage, but it was only like 10 degrees out. I randomly started doing the rad no comply/boneless tricks that Rob does to get warmed up. Then I decided to try it 180 (above). So fun. I was also doing kickflips to get things going. I got a heelflip in less time then it’s taken in awhile, but of course next up was treflip and it took awhile. I had quite a few random ideas. I struggled with one foot tailgrab for awhile which I couldn’t really do in high school and to no surprise I still can’t. Couldn’t nollie flip. Did some frontside grabs and a pop shove tail grab. Ha. Posed nollie heel, switch frontside flip, switch flip with no success. Finished the night trying kickflip noseslides. Got a couple close ones, but never locked in. One of these days I hope.

Two hours in the garage. No new tricks to show for it. 😕 #obsessed

Went out in the garage after work and worked through most of the basic flippers. Kickflip, fakie flip, heelflip took way too long, 360 flip real quick helped erase the pain of struggling at heelflip, b/s and f/s flips, halfcab flips both ways. Then I went in for dinner, did the dished and headed back out to the garage determined to land a new flipper. But I struggled. So close to nollie and switch flips. Soooo close. Argh. Close to varial heel, couldn’t do halfcab heel, posed nollie back heel and switch f/s flip. Felt out hardflips, switch heels, nollie heels, but didn’t get close. Close to nollie varial flip and nollie treflips. The tiny garage is so hard for some tricks. I still had fun though and the shoes feel much more broken in now.

skate journal: feeling better research ledge, valmont are and then the garage with ollie later (jan 31, 2016 day 31)

crooks boulder

Feeling better I woke up way too early excited to skate. It has snowed a trace overnight and some areas has snow/ice on them. I went to research ledge before 10am and it was dry! I was feeling pretty tired as I tried to skate it though. Noseslides were a battle, but got me warmed up. I had a boardslide popout and then took a long time for crooks. Had a couple bad back 50s before losing them for a long time. It was so frustrating. I hucked some flip tricks, but didn’t land much. It felt good to fall down though. I setup hosercam to try and capture either a front smith grind or crooks bigspin for The Game. Didn’t get either, but got close to both. I tried to skate a little faster which made tricks harder. Oh well.

After awhile I packed it up and headed to Valmont area to do a new trick for the challenge. In my head I was thinking halfcab flip, fakie sex change or maybe fakie hardflip. I got the first two. That is the first time I’ve done a fakie sex change on a bank. It was pretty fun.

lines for dayssss

I was pretty sore and achy, but felt like trying a line. Ollie a little gap over a curb at the very top of the photo, kickflip up the curb, ollie the little gap off the corner of the 3 stair then ollie over the tall curb. The kickflip took awhile because of how rough it is up there, but the line felt great when I got it.

Poor mans kickflip for the boy.

Later that night I wanted to start breaking in some new PJs as the burgundy ones finally got a hole in the sole. I was doing some kickflips in the garage when Ollie came out! I was so stoked. I messed around with some silly tricks while he was out and we did the poor mans kickflips together. He was hyped on it. Then he went in and I posed nollie flips, treflip and varial heels for awhile. After skating the burgundy PJs beyond how long I normally skate them the new ones feel so stiff and bulky. Oh well, good shoes take awhile to break in.

skate journal: nose manny shoves (jan 30, 2016 day 30)

Posted in Skate Journal on February 1st, 2016 by corpo

Challenged to do nose manual shoves by Josh for The Game. Was feeling really sick, but since it was 60 degrees I just had to get outside for a bit. I went to Mikes Camera manual pad and tried nose manual shoves for about an hour before getting one. I’m kind of surprised I was able to get one considering how achy I felt when I started. I didn’t think I’d even be able to ollie up the curb. I did a couple of kickflips too. So far I’ve done at least one kickflip every day of the year. Neato.

skate journal: feeling sick on a vacation day in the wind hating everything (jan 29, 2016 day 29)

Today. 👎

Woke up not feeling so hot on a vacation day. It was supposed to be sunny and warm. It was sunny, it was somewhat warm, but the wind was something fierce. Wind is the worst. When I got to Lafayette it was so windy I could barely move going one way. It sucked. I wanted to pull a Fuzz and focus my board immediately. But my stubborn self kept skating. Horribly. I was supposed to work on nose manual shoves, but couldn’t do them on the manny pad. I tried front 50 kickflips out for awhile and got close, but not too close. I had a few fun cruises around the park. I have fun with that when there aren’t other people there. I eventually just left thinking I would skate more later. But I ended up feeling really sick and slept most of the day.

skate journal: research ledge feeling tired (jan 28, 2016 day 28)

Posted in New Deck, Skate Journal on January 29th, 2016 by corpo

oh this ledge again. boulder. colorado.

Not feeling very well after a late nap I headed to research center feeling tired and out of it. I started off pushing up the hill, rolled down the long stairs a couple of times and then pushed down the hill going fast and doing powerslides. I had a new deck since I had cracked mine so bad the day before. The funny thing is I kind of cracked the tail on my first ollie up the curb. Ha. Not enough to even show, but it made me laugh. I don’t really like brand new decks. I like brand new grip though. I laid into some noseslides for awhile, took a long time to get crooks (mostly because I was scared of how fast I was going), couldn’t get a front noseslide, got one really bad back 50, hucked flippers that I couldn’t land, couldn’t front 50, got a halfcab noseslide quicker then normal, posed halfcab crooks and front crooks. Left tired. Bummed on how little I landed, but happy I went a little faster then normal. I had put some venom bushings in since the bones bushings had blown out a little and were kind of bumming me out.

skate journal: blue skies again. with aki, dave and hosercam (jan 27, 2016 day 27)

Posted in Skate Journal on January 28th, 2016 by corpo

Went to Blue Skies for lunch. Dave and I were there first. We both struggled for awhile awhile. Me especially. I couldn’t land anything. I got the camera out so Dave could do the switch front shove above. He did that and the nollie and Aki turned things up with the kickflip into the bank. It’s steeper then it looks. I’m impressed. I did have some ok faster ollies over the flat bar. Got a heelflip after one that cracked my tail really bad. After that we all kind of did our own thing. Dave was working on feebles off the end of the dragon rail. I did front shove off the drop. Aki did nollie back lip the flat bar then tried front 50s on the dragon rail. I have wanted to kickflip the dragon rail for a long time and it turned out that today was the day. I know it’s not big, but man it felt wonderful. So wonderful in fact that I was even happy most of the rest of the day at work. Ha.

skate journal: blue skies hucking with dave and aki (jan 26, 2016 day 26)

dave front 50 at blue skies park

Skipped out for lunch at Blue Skies on a sunny January day in the mid 30s. Warm up was trying nollie wallies. Dave and I got a few and Aki actually learned one right then. I tried the fakie version and landed something. Not really sure what it was, but it felt cool. Everyone went boardslide on the flat bar next before kind of doing different things. Aki hit the flat bar and got front lip, crooks and almost nollie back lip. Dave doing really good feebles on a flat bar and lining it out to front 50 on the other one. He had a few great front 50s. Then he started lining out front 50s to over the top 50 attempts. He never quite got that, but he did hop on the dragon rail. Dave had ollied onto the tall middle ledge easy so I tried to as well. I got up it second try! So I tried to get up it again and failed for a good hour even trying wallies sometimes. When I didn’t get the ollie/wallie up I would try front shoves off which was my real goal. I would get one, but it took a solid hour. I committed way more times, but the slow speed with such little setup makes it hard. And once again the make felt really awesome. Dave was doing kickflips, faster front 50s on the flat bar and almost the over the top 50s on the flatbar. That would be crazy. I finished trying a line of boardslide, 360 flip on flat, kickflip to fakie, halfcab noseslide. Never got the 360 flip, but it was fun because I was going fast (for me) on the boardslide which setup a decent speed 360 flip. I need to skate faster. I had a faster feeling fakie bigflip too. Really fun session even though I really didn’t land much. I guess it was just that I was actually pushing myself.

skate journal: hucking in the garage (jan 25, 2016 day 25)

Posted in Skate Journal on January 26th, 2016 by corpo

Went out to the garage feeling sore and tired. I put Aural Burrows on the tape player and began the hucking. I did a couple 180s or whatever then started hucking switch heels. Then after a few kickflips and a heelflip that took too long I went into huck mode of switch flips up the garage and nollie back heels down. I came very close to switch flip and somehow nollie back heel felt doable. I never got close, but I did commit. The board just never flipped all the way around. I finished with b/s and f/s flips and called it a night.
