It was warm out and lots of snow had melted. I stopped by the research center on the way home from work because it has lots of open newish asphalt. Flatground went ok. Still struggling with halfcab flips and treflips. I tried to manual this curb and stuff too. It was pretty early on and I was trying a run where I ollied a little puddle then quickly ollied up the curb, pushed a couple times and ollied this puddle. I’m not sure how, but I landed really far back on the tail and cracked my board more. Doh. Had some heelflips, landed on a switch flip, but couldn’t get it. Switch flips are such a tease. As soon as I think I might land it I can’t get close anymore. I tried the gap again and cracked my tail even more. What the heck. This gap is tiny, but the bigger setup made me feel like I should do it easy. I have no idea how I was landing so bad. So then I resorted to trying nollie tres (landed a couple really bad ones) and then went for a 3 flip and cracked the board beyond skate condition. Doh.

Shortly after getting home from work I went out to Rampy with one purpose, to learn Texas Plants. I started with the tail grab bomb drop into the ramp. Got comfy with that then started hucking. To my surprise the board started coming up to my front hand. Josh was right with the tip to put the front foot back a little. A few tries later I landed one. Then another, And many more. They got better as I went. I was about as excited and happy as I’ve ever been skateboarding. I never thought in a million years I would land this trick. Thanks for getting me to try it Josh!

Went out to Rampy with Ollie after dinner on a snowy night. I had to clean up the mess of truck parts. While I did that Ollie just pumped back and forth for literally 5 minutes. Ha. I was kind of in learn Texas Plants mode since I have to now:

Did a few other basics, but mostly hucked Texas Plants. Couldn’t get close. Ollie and I let our boards drop in then jump on them when they came back. I figured that’s a start on jumping into tranny. Then Ollie put this box in the middle of the ramp and we skated around it. It was easier then I thought actually. Ollie ran into it once though which was really funny. Then I started trying to cheat the last part of a Texas Plant by holding on to the tail and setting the board on the ramp and going in. Setting the board fully in without jumping in was pretty easy. Jumping in though, scary. I kind of did it, but probably had my front foot on tranny before “jumping” with my back foot. Oh well, fun, short night and stoked that Ollie skated.

Woke up and it was almost 50 out and sunny. A couple hours later it was cloudy and starting to flurry. Riley and crew were heading to Boulder, but they weren’t ready yet and I wanted to skate before the snow became too much. I went to Southern Hills feeling pretty sore around 10am. I warmed up with a few front/back 50s on the first step. It took awhile, but things began working out alright. At one point I had a really long run for me. Ollie onto a bench in the back area, front 180 off, fakie flip on flat, the worst halfcab noseslide ever, heelflip on flat, crooks a bench, noseslide to fakie a bench bailed a fakie tre. Did several front 50s on a bench. They weren’t too good though. It takes a lot for me to pop onto those benches. Tried to do nollie tres after the ones I landed, but never landed one. Popped down the two stair a couple times, got a front noseslide after one then went around the back and ollied onto a bench and back 180’d off. Then made myself skate flat for awhile. 10 flippers. Got heelflip, halfcab flip, varial flip, fakie flip, fakie bigflip, b/s flip, f/s halfcab flip, fakie varial flip, nollie varial flip and treflip. The treflip was the biggest struggle. I landed several with hands down, but stuck with it until I landed one without the hands down. It felt good at least. It got me wanting to skate around again, but the snow was really picking up. So I just propped up the ol’ phone to give Neil a taste of what he’s missing.

Then I went to Red Curbs to meet up with Riley, Nolan, Bernie, Julian and Ladd. As you can see Riley and Nolan were in full destroy mode. This is only part of it. I did a few slappies then stood around like a fool in the cold dadcaming the ripping.

I was feeling very arthritic and sore. Ugh. Met Jack at Ques then we checked out a nearby cement pond that was unfortunately wet. Then we went to the bank to curb/ledge spot to warm up. Most of the time that spot feels really hard to skate and this day was not exception. Especially in my condition. Jack boardslide the taller ledge, wallied up it, wallie to switch crooks transfer and some front 5-0s on the little one. I mostly just did tricks that don’t involve ollieing like slappy tail, switch noseslides band a few boardslides. Oh yeah, kind of did a hurricane. Then we went to a gap spot for Jack. He tried to switch front heel into a bank. Got close, but never rolled away. Before he started trying I did a couple ollie to axle stalls. Pretty fun.

@the_neviathan the switch front @rabethica was harder then i thought. I totally did it @hellagnarbrosevelt style, just not as good. Then we went to the Research Center. I was still feeling like crap. Took a long time to get a boardslide pop out. Jack started doing the grind to wallride he wanted to film so we filmed that. He got it pretty quick. So sick! Then I asked him to try it again so I could get a photo and he rolled his ankle. Oh man I felt bad. Sorry Jack. What a weird one, we think he actually rolled it against the wall. Luckily it wasn’t a bad one and hopefully he’ll be late shoving again soon. I went and tried the switch front noseslide for awhile to keep the old guy #theglenandjosholdfartlongdistanceinstagramtricksuperchallenge challenge going. I always thought I was sliding further, but once again once I see the footage the reality set it. Oh well. Then we went to St Julien to meet up with Bernie, Riley and Nolan but they weren’t there. I couldn’t ollie much so started hucking bean plants then Jack hobbled over and filmed it. Thanks Jack! Carleigh had shown up too and did a couple steezy kickflips. I had a back 180 over it too that felt really good. Then tried to piece together a little line of halfcab flip then b/s flip over the curb. The halfcab flip was not working though and I got really tired. Then we just hung out a bit before going our separate ways.

Went to blue skies on a nice morning. I was pretty tired from lot sleeping well for some reason. It was friday so I planned on keeping with the flatground tradition. There were kids in the hockey rink so I went into the empty skatepark area. I hit the banks a little to warm up then mostly went into the flippers. It started off pretty good. Halfcab flip, fakie flip, fakie bigflip, varial flip, heelflip, f/s halfcab flip, but then I got stuck. Tried treflip, nollie treflip, nollie bigflip and f/s halfcab heel. Couldn’t do them. The treflip being the most maddening. I focused on just it for awhile and eventually landed an over 40 ‘Baker Maker’. I was late on getting back to work at that point so I bailed right away. Before the treflip rage I ollied the flat bar as a test to see if the big board really seemed to help my ollies. It felt good for sure. Cool. It’s not like I can land treflips consistently on any sized setup.

Another nice day in the 60s. I went to research center around 7pm to meet Jack and Carleigh. I arrived first. I went up to the main entrance and rode down the stairs a couple times before heading back to the ledge area. I did a couple warm up lines with some 180s off the bikepath kicker, some more 180s on flat, ollies up the curb and some noseslides. I tried a few noseslides going way faster then normal. Then some crooks not going faster then normal. Then a sloppy back 50 or two not going fast at all. Also had a couple front 50s when Jack and Carleigh showed. I was feeling really good. Rattled off a few flip tricks. Heelflips and fakie flips felt good. Didn’t try a treflip. Maybe that explains why I had fun. Had some lines with manuals on the long pad too. Carleigh was going for front 180 nosegrind and front noseslide. She was locking in super good to the front nose. Such a hard trick. Jack went tech from the start. Boardslide to switch 5-0 180 out. Front 5-0 to front noseslide and a bunch more basics. Lots of poppy kickflips and manuals and stuff. Oh yeah, early on it was warm enough that I shed my hoodie. Hope this weather keeps up!

Had some new wheels because I hated those Rictas so bad and I didn’t feel like spending an hour trying to get the busted outer bearing ring out. So big wheels again, 52mm. Ha. They felt big. I did several runs on the ramp. My new wheels made the cool new zing sound on reverts and stuff. Then I did this dorky manual where I rolled fakie on flat towards my living room wall, turned to rock ‘n roll on the side of the ramp (in the flat section) then to forward and manual the flat of Rampy. It was pretty dumb and took me awhile, but it felt pretty neat.

Went to Longmont park right after work. I felt pretty good I thought. I took a few warm up cruises around the park doing nothing. The scene started to bum me out. There was a couple older rollerblade dudes. A longboarder that couldn’t even ride down a bank and would yell “on your left” or whatever anytime he was anywhere near you. And a couple kids that would try the euro over and over and not get even close. A couple other skaters at least. I thought things were gonna go decent and then I tried to front 50 a small ledge and didn’t get close. Ugh. I tried to not let it bother me and actually had a really fun line at one point. Ollie the b/s hip (I may have even left the ground), kickflip on the bank then crooks the ledge. Then I was trying to ollie onto the longer ledge with a bit of speed and failed so bad. I thought I was gonna get on it all good and all of a sudden I was doing the splits on the ledge and fell off it it. Ugh. That was when Fremont’s own Richard showed up. Great. I went over to the mellow bank at that point and tried halfcab flips for awhile. I watched Richard skate the ledge so good as a warm up. 50s and 5-0s super fast both ways. He went on to do nollie front crooks to fakie and the noseblunt you see above. I tried to skate it a little and sucked so went back to the mellow bank and tried fakie tres for awhile. At one point I was close and walked down the bank, but my board didn’t follow. It was just sitting there on the bank. What the heck? Turns out I blew out a bearing and my front left wheel was locked. I worked it out and skated a bit longer. Failed at the ledge some more. My legs were shaky. I think the cold front coming through really messed with me. I ended with an axle stall on the noping qp followed by a kickflip to fakie on the bank and called it a night. Good seeing Richard, he rips. I left very depressed. Some of the worst I’ve ever skated it felt like. Ugh.

After dropping India off for ballet I met John at the newish ledge spot on Pearl. We warmed up by dorking around on the banked curb. I should have taken a photo. John did pivot fakie and blunt to pivot fakie on it. We both did some little grinds like feebles and stuff. it was funny. My favorite was a wallie to grind from the side. I made a comment about “I can’t believe how long we’ve skated this” and cracked my board a little on a lipslide attempt. It was fine though. Then we skated the ledges. John was quick on the front 50s. The narrowness of the ledge and slight downhill still weird me out a little. I got some decent crooks and slammed on a back 50 or two. John had a line of front 50 180 out then switch noseslide the next one. I had a couple front 5-0s that were supposed to be 50s. Ha. One of the advantages of not leveling out your ollies like you’re supposed to. I got a front 50 shove out then we played a game of SKATE. It was a long one with several attempts for tricks to be landed. I landed treflip first and he landed it too. He got me on switch front shove, but in the end I got him with high tech maneuvers like heelflip, b/s flip and fakie bigflip
