skate journal: commerce city park with Nate and Mikey (Nov 13)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 14th, 2008 by corpo

Nate and I cruised to Commerce City on a suprisingly chilly night.  When Nate and I got there we were the only ones there until Mikey met up with us a few minutes later.  It was fun to try whatever you wanted and not have to worry about getting in peoples ways.  The bowl was filled with leaves though which bummed me out because I wanted to skate it a little.  It was fun ollieing into banks and doing basic ledge tricks.  I tried 360 flips to fakie on a bank for a long time, but never landed one.  Never comitted.  It felt close though.  Nothing too gnarly went down but it was fun.

skate journal: Denver with Nate (Nov 9)

After an impromptu sleep over the morning was spent going on a gnarly hike with Liz.  We got back and I straight took a nap thinking the kids would be home any minute wanting to play.  But their friends kept saying it would be awhile longer.  Screw it, no more waiting.  Nate and I bolted to Denver around 2 for a couple hours of fun.  We went to the Harley banks where within 5 minutes I slammed hard and the cops came.  Ugh.We drove downtown and parked near the rail that Monico ends the Null video with.  But we skated the mellow bank as a flat bank.  Nate did a nollie fs flip easy and got a couple switch front heels.  I was very happy to get fakie treflip and treflip fakie amonst some other tricks like first try big flip.  Super fun.  Then we rolled around hitting various spots til we would get kicked out.  Nothing really stands out other than it was fun and we skated hard.  Rad.

skate journal: Skate Saturday in Denver with Meta and Trick Factory (Nov 8)

After a fun morning of baseball and biking with the kids I met Rob, Fuzz, Brian, Neil, Jam and Gordon at Brian’s house.  Rob, Neil and I played a couple game of SKATE that didn’t go so well.  Especially when I attempted a frontside flip and the board bounced up and nailed me in the cheek.  Ouch. The first stop was a school in Five Points where the Meta team was filming some tricks across a 3 and 4 stair thing.  I dorked around for awhile and Brian and I had a game of curb SKATE on a weird triangular parking block.  Brian did a ridiculous blunt pivot where he actually turned on the tranny of the 8″ tall curb.  Ridiculous.  I did a new trick for me.  No comply to blunt bean plant out thing.  Stupid sure.  But fun yes.  Next Neil, Fuzz, Rob, Gordon and I skated a 3 up 3 down.  Man I haven’t skated stairs in forever and the thought of putting a kickflip down wasn’t happening.Next we ended up at the green playground spot I saw at the start of the Meta teaser.  The spot ended up being a blast.  Fuzz ollied everything.  Gordon played speed racer through it.  Neil killed everything as usual.  Rob’s got crazy rad tricks.  Brian slams harder than anyone.  Me, I suck, but I did put down a line on film I’m not completely bummed on.  Jeff and the Meta dudes showed up after awhile and Jeff got a cameo trick for my part.  Neato.  Fun day.

skate journal: Windy, cold, quick, crappy solo campus session (Nov 7)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 10th, 2008 by corpo

Had about an hour to skate so bolted out the door on a windy evening with the mp3 player on shuffle.  Between the music and the wind I was really off balance.  I cruised around quite a bit never landing anything.  Not the best session ever, but I did skate and it beat not doing anything.

Lakai – Fully Flared video review

Posted in Product Review, skate video reviews on November 7th, 2008 by corpo

fully slow mo'dThis video has been out for almost a year now and I’ve been wanting to review it for awhile.  I have a love/hate relationship with Fully Flared.  I love most of the skaters, most of the filming and how epic the video is.  But I hate most of the music, the over-editing and complete abuse of slow motion as well as how long the video is.  I hate how boring they made MJ and Mariano’s parts.  The very first time I watched the video I fell asleep during Mariano’s part.  What?!?!  I was pissed.  Granted I was pretty tired, but still, I fell asleep during my first viewing of Mariano’s part.  Ridiculous.  The music says something about sleep and it’s boring music and well, I fell asleep. The intro is pretty amazing.  Once, twice, maybe even a third time.  But seriously, could the opening shot of Koston be any slower?  It’s almost as if he’s not moving at all.  By the time he even pops his tail for the kickflip I skip it to Mike Mo’s part.  Then there is the horrible over edits of random crap at the start of that part so I skip that too.  Don’t get me wrong, I think Mike Mo is amazing, but his part doesn’t live up to the hype for me and the over editing and crappy music is too much for me.  Next up is Pappalardo.  Maybe best part in the video?  The music is awesome, the editing works, the skating is amazing, and it’s not boring California gaps or rail footage.   This part gets me hyped.  I don’t even know how many parts I skip after that.  It’s not that the skating isn’t amazing, but I don’t have one hour to sit around watching a video before I go skate.  Sometimes I watch Cairo’s part, sometimes I don’t.  It’s a sick part though.  I have not watched Jeff Lenoce’s part since the first viewing.  Skip.  Alex Olson’s part is amazing.  I hate when my remote doesn’t work and I can’t fast forward the way-too-long intro though.  Dude skates fast and has style for miles.  I didn’t like the song at first, but now I’m into it.  Rick Howard’s part is pure awesomeness.  Dude is old and rips.  Carroll is still one of the best, although his second song really sucks.  Can you tell I don’t like new school gangsta rap crap?  Beibel is pretty sick, but I never watch that part.  Skip.  Koston.  Wow.  Koston is the best.  The frontside halfcab flip manual 180 down the three stair to switch manual.  Wow.  So many amazing tricks and Public Enemy!  Public Enemy and Koston go together so so good.  This is normally the last part I watch and I’m hyped to go skate.  I love Mariano, but the editing and two boring songs kill it for me.  I’ll watch the part, but not if it’s before I go skate.  Even though I’ve skipped half the video there is still more.  Three songs of MJ.  Seriously?  The third song has slow motion for EVERY SINGLE TRICK.  It’s the stupidist thing in history.  This part should have been two songs.  I’m find with him having last part, MJ is the man and his skating is so creative and inspiring, but I almost never watch his part because it’s too long.Basically I don’t think this video is all that.Rating: ★★★☆☆

OBAMA!Landslide!

skate journal: some flatground then Longmont park (Nov 5)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 6th, 2008 by corpo

After a night of celebrating Obama winning the election I may have actually had a hangover for the first time in forever.  But it wasn’t much and I was hyped to finally be able to setup a new deck.  I had been waiting on account of the election to see how to decorate my griptape.  I went the emo “YES WE DID” route.  Whatever, I’m not about to be embarresed about my excitement on Obama being our next president.  Anyways, my flaground was pretty weak, but getting used to a new board isn’t easy for me.  It was fun and Ollie joined me for a bit at the school.  He manualed a section of sidewalk and landed by rolling off the curb.  Pretty rad really.Later on it was Neil, Brian, Gordon and me meeting up with Chris, Chad, Grant and some other Ft COllins heads at the Longmont park.  It was a rad session until Brian, Neil and Gordon wanted to go home way before I wanted to.  Oh well, it was cold and I was tired anyways.  I got into a few noseblunts on the flatbank and maybe even started getting an idea of how to land them.  I also landed a smith grind on the little ledge.  It was a weak one but I’m hyped that I’m starting to get that trick.

New Plan B promo

Posted in Amazing skate clips on November 3rd, 2008 by corpo

Danny Way’s stuff is beyond incredible.  And I’m normally a snowboard jump hater.  360 flip manual seriously?  Putting Wenning right after Way is a bit odd and boring.  Oh well.  For the most part this promo is sick.  Sheckler has some big stuff, but it’s not enough to shut me up.  There is a better quality clip on the Plan B site.
