skate journal: the flatground that ended skating for awhile (april 14, 2017)

Got out of work early and went to the dog park. I thought I was motivated. But the pain was so much. I tried some warm up ollies, stretched for awhile. Got a text from Saul to skate in awhile. But I didn’t make it. I had about a 10 minute window where I felt slightly better than terrible. I got a few kickflips, fakie flips and halfcab flips. But then I succumbed to the fact that I should not be skating in this much pain.

I did a bunch of research and some good news. I don’t think it’s an arthritis flare up that I can’t control. I believe it is runners knee. The detail that nailed it for me is that it’s hard to walk downhill or down stairs. Which it is for me. So although it’s a bummer I will take some time off of skating at least there are exercises I can do to hopefully avoid it becoming so bad again. I’m also kind of mad that I’ve been to two Physical Therapists and neither of them suggested I have runners knee. I stay away from doctors.
