skate journal: new complete old ledge spot (sept 2, 2020)

After an insanely busy day at work I went to an old spot with a new complete on a really hot day. I put some wax on the ledge, but it just melted. So I kind of avoided the melted area and did stalls. I should have rub bricked it. But stalls were fun and I noticed the bigger wheels helping me get up on it. I had done some axle stalls and went in on some more. Front tails felt cool and since it was a stall why not shove out. Kickflip axle stalls didn’t really work, but still felt cool. Flip tricks went okay, nothing special though.

skate journal: crowded dog park (sep 1, 2020)

After work headed to dog park on a warm afternoon. Eric was there. There was a ton of people skating. Eric was ripping. Tall tailslides, close to nosegrinds. I was kind of enjoying the middle of the park somehow not getting a lot of use. Had some crooks then crooks to fakie which I don’t normally do. Got a good fakie nosegrind for me. Dave showed briefly, slammed, then left. I skated a while, but don’t remember a whole lot. I got a sketchy treflip, front 50 shove, f/s halfcab flip. It was kind of a whatever session, but I guess I have to deal with the crowds and youth if I want to skate there after work.

(setup 8.3 null curby deck, jessup ultragrip, venture 5.8 custom titanium, stock bushings, 52mm spitfire f4 99a tablets, new balance numeric 306 b/w size 12, thin NB 533v2 insoles)
(pain level 4/10 maybe vulcs with thin insoles isn’t the best idea)

Up kind of early I met Rob and Kevin at Thornton park along with Will, Jake and Nick. Some were skating the bowl, I avoided it and warmed up in the street. I’m writing this way too late to remember what happened. I remember a few things. Kevin ripping nosegrinds over the the little manny pad, me not doing front 50s on the ledge, scooter kids being super annoying, Rob with style manuals. At one point Will and I were trying to noseslide the “big” hubba. It’s kind of scary, it’s easy to get on, but gets tall quickly. I got a few noseslides on it. Kevin was apparently hyped and filmed me for a bit to get halfcab flip then noseslide. It was fun. Sean showed and did some basic tricks so casually and good on the main ledge. I came remotely close to back nosegrind on the tiny pad.

Then we went to Northglenn High. I filmed Hayden do some boardslides for a while. Then filmed jack do a trick I associate with Markovich, but it’s not named after him. Joe killed it with his patented trick. After awhile I started skating again. Sean, Hayden and I skated the red ledge. Sean 50’d it so casually then added some harder tricks. I struggled with noseslides and maybe a crook. Hayden invented slappy nosegrind pop out. Then we hit the downhill area. Bo was ripping and did a lipslide the bench, boardslide the parking block then the best treflip ever. Sean’s line was amazing ollieing up/over everything. I struggled to do noseslides because of the downhill approach, then took even longer to get the tiniest crooks ever. After that I think we ended up at WR high. I took forever to do a nose stall and even longer to not land a kickflip nose stall. Hayden killed it with an unconventional line. Joe with the mega pop and hardflips. Bo ripped there too with the big pops and pop shove. Long day in the sun.
