skate journal: fun saturday sessions (oct 15, 2016 day 289)

I had a lazy morning. Slept in a little to try and cure the insomnia. It worked. I felt good. I changed my trucks to the high trucks and the wheels that were on my bigger setup. Around 10am I lazily went over to the school after telling Ollie, “I’m not coming back until I land Josh’s trick”. It took me about 30 minutes and I was back and feeling happy.

After some lunch I went out in front of the house and skated some flatground while waiting for Carleigh. It went ok, some tricks even felt better like fakie bigspin flip. Then after awhile I gave up and left and ended up at Valmont. Carleigh came shortly after. I had setup a little table off the curb to noseslide down to start a run before the bank spot. I got a couple of them, but the angle was really hard and the rocks supporting the side beams kept falling out. Ashlyn showed and started waxing the curb on the side of the bank. I had one line with noseslide then varial flip to fakie. Dave showed too. We were mostly just skating the bank at that point. Carleigh got a rad line (photo above) of boardslide down, ollie the wall then kickflip on a banked sidewalk. Ashlyn did a ton of tricks. Boardslide up, heelflip, fakie heelflip, no comply and some more tricks I’ve forgetting right now. Dave did boardslide up, fakie crook stall, front disaster, kickflip to fakie, boardslide the whole way down, a ton of tricks. Carleigh also did her first boardslide transfer. Then she perfected it with a few more that got better and better. I tried slappy crooks to manual down forever. Got really close, but never made it all the way down. I was getting close to fakie hardflip too when Jason pinged us asking for help. Off to the nursing home Carleigh and I went.

skate journal: brief curb stalls at the school feeling terrible (october 14, 2016 day 288)

curby

Got out of work early and went home instead of skating. That basically sums up how bad I felt. I pushed over to the school after a walk with Liz on my 8.38 setup. I did a few crooks stalls and stuff then went home.

Went to the dog park after work on an absolutely gorgeous day. Seriously incredibly beautiful. Temperature, no breeze, etc. I started off terrible. Actually started to think maybe I should go to the doctor because I felt so disoriented and weird. I’m going to blame insomnia. It took me about 20 minutes to feel comfortable with kickflips. Jake showed up around then and went into a game of SKATE. I wasn’t expecting much, but ended up getting quite a few tricks. He got me on treflip and switch front shove. Also a couple of other tricks I forget. But I had landed a couple rare ones like halfcab heel and fakie heel. I ended up winning on a f/s no comply 360. I had no idea Jake doesn’t have that trick, but I certainly will remember that. Ha. Second game was no repeats. I took a long time to get a backside flip, we both failed at fakie tres, I forget what else went down, but I won it. Then I wanted to do a treflip before I left. Well, 30 minutes later I landed a crappy one. Ugh. Total damper on my first ok feeling session in awhile.

louisville skatepark colorado

Went to Louisville park on a cool evening. I am still dealing with insomnia and trying not to nap in the afternoon. When I arrived there was one skater being filmed by his girlfriend and 3 bikers just talking to each other. It took awhile before I felt comfortable enough to do anything. Ugh. I would eventually get a line of slow front 50 the lower part of the long ledge, boardslide the low part of the flat bar, then kickflip on the bank. I tried to do another line starting with front 50 180 or front 50 shove, but it never happened. I got a couple of crooks on the ledge. Came close to nollie f/s flip in the corner. Posed hardflips over the hip. Basically still feel out of it and exhuasted. Ugh.

skate journal: super depression session at safeway ledge (oct 10, 2016 day 294)

Posted in Skate Journal on October 11th, 2016 by corpo

Went to Safeway after work on my way to Crisis. I was dead tired. It was absolutely gorgeous outside. I fell asleep in the car instead of getting out to skate. That’s when it really hit home to me that something is wrong. Ugh. After waking up I attempted to skate, but it was terrible. 50s were as far as I got on the list. My feet were hating me for wearing the smaller shoes again. Gotta go back to the 12s.

lipslide gone bad

After driving down from the mountains and chilling awhile I went to good ol’ Valmont to try my luck with the lipslide shove again. I quickly felt like crap. Total crap. It was like I was learning to skate all over again. I had done a couple of bad 50s and taken awhile to land a kickflip (but got a heelflip first try) before forcing myself to lay into more lipslides. My already cracked deck did not like that. I ended up basically just trying it over and over. It was kind of funny watching the crack spread across the deck a little further with each failed attempt. It became too soggy to even try flip tricks. After awhile I focused it and setup an old Krooked Manderson board that was in my trunk. I went back into lipslides with it, but was so tired at that point that I basically gave up and went home.

On the way to my mom’s in BV we stopped at the Fairplay park. No one was there. It was cool out, but not cold and no breeze whatsover. Ollie was cruising around the park quickly. I was hyped to skate, but quickly proved I had no energy once again. I bailed a lot. Ollie doesn’t skate much, but it’s fun when he does. He was doing manuals around the hip, carves over the rock love seat, pushing mongo everywhere, front 180s off the little wedge and halfcabs over the hip. I had done a couple of back 180’s over it and decided I wanted to backside flip it. 30 tries later I got one. Ollie with the hype. Then we left. I was hyped to get that trick.

curb

Had to force myself off the couch after a long day of work and a long week of staying up late (Dinosaur Jr twice!!!). I got to Valmont shortly before 9pm and my energy level was seriously low. I skated absolutely horrible. I felt like I had never skated before. Even kickflips felt weird. I took awhile to do front 50s on the low part, noseslides even felt weird. Flip tricks were impossible. I was wearing the size 12 PJs. They felt huge. I tried to do a few front lips after the grate, but I kept cracking my board a tiny bit worse with each attempt. So I moved down to the curb area and managed to slide a few lipslides and contemplate shoving out. But I ran out of energy and decided to leave. Ugh.

Super exhausted from two nights of @dinosaurjr brief garage dork session. #laundrynight #day280

I was so completely exhausted from two nights of Dinosaur Jr. I started my laundry, opened the door to the garage for a minimum manual dork trick and ended up just trying this one for about 10 minutes. After getting one I asked Ollie to film it so I could share it with my fans (ha ha ha). I got another one in a few more minutes.
