skate journal: Rampy with Greg, then Ollie (Feb 26)

Posted in Skate Journal on March 2nd, 2009 by corpo

The Harbounator came by for awhile and we skated before I filmed a little ramp footage of him.  He was loving the ramp and ripping it of course with tons of crazy 270 reverts.  I didn’t get much before filming him, but had fun and got a front smith which always feels good.  Later with Ollie I had a really good run, but it’s been like 4 days so I don’t remember what it was.  I know it had a front disaster, fakie 50 fakie, back 50 fakie and a few more tricks.  Fun fun.  I like Rampy.

skate journal: my worst temper fit in awhile (Feb 25)

Met Jason and Nate at St Julien on a super nice evening.  Things started out pretty good for me and I was in a good mood.  After awhile the lack of support from my blown out shoes started to bug me and take away any type of confidence I may have had.  I managed a kick back 50 for the first time in awhile even though it was slow and I barely grinded.  AFter that it was all downhill and various ollie attempts that failed led me to rip off my shoes and throw then in the trash.  As I write this it sounds as if I’m making excuses and certainly I am, but I’m sure half of it was just me due up for a bad day of skating.  Ugh ugh ugh!

skate journal: broken board at the steelyards (Feb 23)

Posted in Skate Journal on February 24th, 2009 by corpo

Skated Rampy with Ollie for a bit.  I got a couple alley oop grinds and front disasters as far as rare tricks for me and Ollie did his first ever grind in the middle of a run.  So much harder then just off a dropin.  He was ripping. It was at least 50 degrees at 8pm.  Incredible.  I met Nate at Steelyards and warming up was going awesome.  I manualed the long way first try.  Kickflips were feeling good.  I started trying a line with a pop shove at speed followed by a front 180 nose manual.  A couple tries in SNAP I totally broke the tail.  SUCK.  After moping around for a bit I remembered I had an old 8.25 in the trunk and set it up.  It was old and soggy, but better then nothing.  We hit a couple of the little gaps around there.  That spot has so much potential for more awesomeness.  Anyways I kinda of gave up on trying to manual too much on a different board, but had a fun run of a kickflip up the curb, kickflip off.  Nate had to leave quickly so we called it.  Bummed I broke that board.

skate journal: Honeys Hole madness (Feb 22)

After filming Fuzz and Rob at red curbs for a bit we went to Honey’s Hole.  I was sore as hell.  Everyone else was already warmed up.  We dug out some dirt and brought in a parking block.  A fun little session was going on the new bank to curb we made when a neighbor raised concerns about our being there and Fuzz had some choice words for the dude.  Bummer.  Honey’s Hole might be dead.

skate journal: more louisville tech center skating (Feb 21)

After another cold Friday with some snow things cleared up and the Factory skated.  While waiting for Fuzz we got some flatground SKATE going in front of my house.  Poor Brian got worked once again right away.  What was it this time?  A shove it I think?  Neil came in mid game then beat me with tricks he knows I can’t do like a backside 360 slide.  Honestly, I can’t do that.  I was pretty on my flip tricks which put me in a good mood.  Our first stop was an angled loading dock with a curb on the edge.  About the only thing I landed on it was a slappy 50 which was actually quite fun.  I did a lot of flatground as well and put down a couple 360 flips that felt really good.  Others were ripping.  Neil and Fuzz especially.  Neil makes the basics look so good.  Fuzz was almost getting some insane tricks.  Unfortunately “almost” was too much and he snapped and focused the crap out of his board.  I had problems just plain ollieing over the curb where the loading dock was a bit taller.  Ugh.  Later on I tried a line with a slappy 50 followed by a noseslide which was super hard because I had to land the 50 and turn back to the ledge immediately.  I never quite got it.Next we went to the steep bank spot where Jason, Rob and Neil destroyed.  It was a sick session to watch and I just kinda posed some tricks and felt dumb.  Nothing new there.  Fun day.

skate journal: Cold late night street skating with Nate (Feb 19)

Posted in Skate Journal on February 20th, 2009 by corpo

Had a late night skate date with Nate for almost a week and we made it happen even though it was cold outside. We decided on going to the Ideal Market area as neither of us have skated there much and we felt like exploring. It took us about 30 seconds to find a sick plastic bench that I wasn’t warmed up enough to skate. But we kept at it. It’s a tall ledge in a narrow walkway with a handrail behind it so it’s not the easiest thing to skate at all. I did a couple weak backside noseslides and boardslides before trying a crooks and somehow locking in perfect and grinding really far with a pop out. Wow. I ended up getting a few more crooks that weren’t as good and some front 50s. Neither of us could get 5-0s at all. Doh. Sometimes those plastic benches stick a bit too much. Nate got some really good back 50s though. Then we skated this angled sidewalk that could be insanely good for grinding/sliding with a little bondo over a crack and some wax at the top. But we still had fun and ended up hitting it in a line. I was getting frustrated as hell, but ended up linking a bunch of bad tricks: kickflip on flat, barely ollie a tiny gap over a curb, front slash on the angled sidewalk, ollie up the tiny gap, 180 another one like it then a fakie flip. I should be fakie flipping over the gap. I suck at gaps! Nate and I then played a game of SKATE that started very slow, but toward the end got pretty good. I landed a decent b/s flip, 360 flip, heelflip, fakie bigflip near the end of the game. Unfortunately the lights shut off and we had to move the game when it was T to T. I think I won it with a varial flip at that point. Lame.We headed up into a parking garage and cruised down it, checked some stuff out. Found a nice ledge you can cali grind down a six stair. I tried it a few times in the dark, but it was too sketchy. At the end we skated a ledge that should be skated more and Nate did some really good front board slides on it. I was wanting to quit for the night, but ended up giving a few a try and landed some horrible ones. We ended the night after I slammed trying to kickflip a crack on the downhill approach to the ledge. Fun night. Skating new spots is the best.

skate journal: a bit of Rampy with Jack (Feb 18)

Posted in Skate Journal on February 19th, 2009 by corpo

It was supposed to be my day off skating, but oh well. Little Jack came over around 9pm and I skated with him for a bit while he warmed up to film a little web montage. I skated pretty crappy, but then again my legs were totally dead. At least I didn’t fall. It was cool seeing Jack have problems with Rampy at first which always reminds me how hard it is to skate. But it didn’t take him long to bust out some moves and film the following little montage.Since Jack is one of the few people that reads my blog I should probably at least make fun of him in some way. Jack, there are tic tacks at :31 and :39 and you had already stopped sliding before putting your front foot on the no comply tailslide. Weak sauce dude. Weak sauce. Ha ha you know I’m joking.

skate journal: Boulder park in the morning for a bit, then pain on Rampy (Feb 17)

Posted in Skate Journal on February 18th, 2009 by corpo

No matter how late I stay up the kids still get up at 7 and wake me up.  This week I don’t have to be to work until after 9am so I had some time to kill after the kids went to school and it was warm out so I chose to skate the Boulder park and write this run on sentence about it.  I didn’t feel like ollieing really and kinda just cruised around for awhile before kind of focusing on a line: Drop in on the 8′ bowl, 5-0 out of the roll in, rolldown the steep wall, ollie the nipple thing, go around, ride over the table top then backside ollie the weird hip, turn and frontside ollie the pyramid hip.  I didn’t do any of them worth a damn, but it was a fun way to start off the day.Later on Ollie and I were skating Rampy before dinner.  Things were going decent in between Ollie’s 20 minute runs of pumping until I slammed insanely hard trying to recover from a fakie 50 fakie.  I don’t know what happened other then I tried to bail, but stepped right back on my board.  SUCK!

skate journal: Table Mesa shopping center solo tired mission (Feb 16)

Posted in Skate Journal on February 17th, 2009 by corpo

Seems like Monday’s are becoming my solo skate night over at Table Mesa shopping center. I love skating by myself sometimes. Unfortunately it became all to clear right away that skateboarding was going to be very difficult when I bailed ollieing up a curb. Ugh. I pretty much skated like crap, but tried lines at a couple spots until I got them. Over by Play It Again Sports I did a front shove on flat, nollie back tail on the curb (the worst one that’s ever been done), ollied over a weird parking block, ollied up a curb, ollied a little flat gap, nollied up a little curb, kickflip on flat, front tail the curb I started on. I had to sit down after that one and rest awhile. Every trick was done horribly, but it was fun linking them together. Next I went over the some painted curbs that were freshly painted and did my best to remove the fresh paint with my trucks. I put a few tries in to manual the pad in front of it then slappy grind the curb. This was hard because the ground between the manual pad was rough as hell and I wanted to go fast enough that I didn’t push in between. Before long I did probably the fastest manual I’ve ever done followed by a slappy 50 then turned around and kickflipped up the curb. Rad. Sat down for awhile again. Then I hit King Soopers via the fun downhill sidewalk gap thing. I want to try and link a line there next time: some flipper into the sidewalk, ollie the gap, make the turn onto the sidewalk, kickflip off the curb, then front lipslide a parking block. Next time maybe? Anyways, before I left I started to really lose it from being tired and spent a bunch of energy trying to quick up to ollie onto the bench in front of Tandoori Grill. I got it a couple times, but it was weak. I blame the lack of light though. Ha. All in all I skated bad, but I skated hard and sometimes that’s fun enough.

skate journal: broomfield industrial areas (Feb 15)

Posted in Skate Journal on February 16th, 2009 by corpo

Got picked up by the Factory in the Icebox around 1 and we headed out to the Broomfield area. First spot was a weird metal beam/ledge thing that I didn’t hit as it was too tall for me. I was feeling pretty out of it and just did a bunch of kickflips in a row to try and get my feet moving. Then a game of SKATE with Rob that I don’t think we even finished. Next up was a weird small bank to rails spot. Brian and I tried some pole jams to fakie and didn’t get close then I tried to carve around the bank and launch out of the side. I didn’t make the carve and my board went under the rail, but then came out after a ledge. Impossible to understand in words I suppose, but I ended up getting a weird sideways hippy jump while holding onto the top bar. It’s ridiculously stupid, but super awesome at the same time. Jason and Rob killed it too with some stall tricks on the lower bar. Jason did a alley oop fakie 5-0, but the TF cameraman recorded over it. Suck! Next we skated this one section for awhile where Rob, Jason and I skated a little hip for a second. I got a no comply 360 over it and a couple kickflips. Nothing special, but it was fun. In the same lot was a metal angled thing that we ollied on and did tricks off of. Rob did a super sick bonelss off. Jason almost got a manual up to 5-0 down I think. I got a boneless 180 off and then slammed and lost a lot of drive to continue skating it. Next up everyone skated the bumper of the Icebox for awhile. My noseslides sucked, but we filmed the end of the video. Lastly I skated a tiny little gap that I could barely ollie, then filmed a bit and almost fell asleep in the van. Fun day.
