skate journal: flatground while on call (Nov 16)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 18th, 2008 by corpo

Ended up having to work pretty much all day and it sucked.  I got out for a bit and skated in front of the house and somehow was doing the best halfcab flips of my life.  Pretty fast, popped a bit and landed at full 180 with no pivot.  Hyped.  I tried a run of halfcab flip, 360 flip and heelflip.  Never got all three, but I did put down a decent treflip for me as well.

skate journal: filming with Neil (Nov 15)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 18th, 2008 by corpo

Another suprisingly nice day in the 50s.  Headed out with Neil with no spots in mind and a video camera.  We ended up at Fairview High struggling at the tricks we wanted to do.  I ended up attempting to gap over a small flat gap to front 50 and after about 100 tries I landed one.  Neil was kind enough to film it and I struggled trying to switch 180 up a curb to start the run.  It eventually went down though and I thank Neil for filming it.  I’m actually pretty hyped on it.  Next up we ended up at a building in north Boulder that had a little manny pad, bike rack and gap where Neil put together a nice line consisting of a halfcab manny, ollie the bike rack then one foot the gap.  Tight!Later that night I skated in my garage for a few minutes attempting the first 10 tricks on my list of tricks to do.  I made this list a couple of years ago when I would skate flat in my garage in the winter.  I had some new shoes so it made things slightly more difficult then they should be.  They were however, shoes from the living legend Tyler Price so if you see me frontside flipping double sets, you’ll know it was the shoes.

skate journal: commerce city park with Nate and Mikey (Nov 13)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 14th, 2008 by corpo

Nate and I cruised to Commerce City on a suprisingly chilly night.  When Nate and I got there we were the only ones there until Mikey met up with us a few minutes later.  It was fun to try whatever you wanted and not have to worry about getting in peoples ways.  The bowl was filled with leaves though which bummed me out because I wanted to skate it a little.  It was fun ollieing into banks and doing basic ledge tricks.  I tried 360 flips to fakie on a bank for a long time, but never landed one.  Never comitted.  It felt close though.  Nothing too gnarly went down but it was fun.

skate journal: Denver with Nate (Nov 9)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 10th, 2008 by corpo

After an impromptu sleep over the morning was spent going on a gnarly hike with Liz.  We got back and I straight took a nap thinking the kids would be home any minute wanting to play.  But their friends kept saying it would be awhile longer.  Screw it, no more waiting.  Nate and I bolted to Denver around 2 for a couple hours of fun.  We went to the Harley banks where within 5 minutes I slammed hard and the cops came.  Ugh.We drove downtown and parked near the rail that Monico ends the Null video with.  But we skated the mellow bank as a flat bank.  Nate did a nollie fs flip easy and got a couple switch front heels.  I was very happy to get fakie treflip and treflip fakie amonst some other tricks like first try big flip.  Super fun.  Then we rolled around hitting various spots til we would get kicked out.  Nothing really stands out other than it was fun and we skated hard.  Rad.

skate journal: Skate Saturday in Denver with Meta and Trick Factory (Nov 8)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 10th, 2008 by corpo

After a fun morning of baseball and biking with the kids I met Rob, Fuzz, Brian, Neil, Jam and Gordon at Brian’s house.  Rob, Neil and I played a couple game of SKATE that didn’t go so well.  Especially when I attempted a frontside flip and the board bounced up and nailed me in the cheek.  Ouch. The first stop was a school in Five Points where the Meta team was filming some tricks across a 3 and 4 stair thing.  I dorked around for awhile and Brian and I had a game of curb SKATE on a weird triangular parking block.  Brian did a ridiculous blunt pivot where he actually turned on the tranny of the 8″ tall curb.  Ridiculous.  I did a new trick for me.  No comply to blunt bean plant out thing.  Stupid sure.  But fun yes.  Next Neil, Fuzz, Rob, Gordon and I skated a 3 up 3 down.  Man I haven’t skated stairs in forever and the thought of putting a kickflip down wasn’t happening.Next we ended up at the green playground spot I saw at the start of the Meta teaser.  The spot ended up being a blast.  Fuzz ollied everything.  Gordon played speed racer through it.  Neil killed everything as usual.  Rob’s got crazy rad tricks.  Brian slams harder than anyone.  Me, I suck, but I did put down a line on film I’m not completely bummed on.  Jeff and the Meta dudes showed up after awhile and Jeff got a cameo trick for my part.  Neato.  Fun day.

skate journal: Windy, cold, quick, crappy solo campus session (Nov 7)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 10th, 2008 by corpo

Had about an hour to skate so bolted out the door on a windy evening with the mp3 player on shuffle.  Between the music and the wind I was really off balance.  I cruised around quite a bit never landing anything.  Not the best session ever, but I did skate and it beat not doing anything.

skate journal: some flatground then Longmont park (Nov 5)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 6th, 2008 by corpo

After a night of celebrating Obama winning the election I may have actually had a hangover for the first time in forever.  But it wasn’t much and I was hyped to finally be able to setup a new deck.  I had been waiting on account of the election to see how to decorate my griptape.  I went the emo “YES WE DID” route.  Whatever, I’m not about to be embarresed about my excitement on Obama being our next president.  Anyways, my flaground was pretty weak, but getting used to a new board isn’t easy for me.  It was fun and Ollie joined me for a bit at the school.  He manualed a section of sidewalk and landed by rolling off the curb.  Pretty rad really.Later on it was Neil, Brian, Gordon and me meeting up with Chris, Chad, Grant and some other Ft COllins heads at the Longmont park.  It was a rad session until Brian, Neil and Gordon wanted to go home way before I wanted to.  Oh well, it was cold and I was tired anyways.  I got into a few noseblunts on the flatbank and maybe even started getting an idea of how to land them.  I also landed a smith grind on the little ledge.  It was a weak one but I’m hyped that I’m starting to get that trick.

skate journal: campus with Nate. Slappies! (Nov 2)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 3rd, 2008 by corpo

Met Nate up on the hill for a late evening campus session.  Another nice night in the upper 40s.  We rolled by a few spots before we ended up and some tiny yellow curbs that were perfect for slappies.  We had a blast trying some weird variations and lines.  I tried a few slappy crooks but never got one.  There were so many leaves on the ground in spots.  We were cruising down a sidewalk and at times you couldn’t tell where the sidewalk was versus the grass.  It was dope.  We hit all kinds of fun little spots before ending the session a couple hours later.  Another fun night.

skate journal: northside with trick factory (Nov 1)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 3rd, 2008 by corpo

Brian, Neil, Travis, Simpson, Fuzz, Lazer, Gordon and I at Northside in Ft Collins once again.  We warmed up at the taco thing in Loveland for a bit before getting the boot.  I had been trying front shove wallrides, but not really.  I took forever to warmup up at Northside and was rather embarresed since everyone else was killing it.  I eventually started having fun.  I tried to carve frontside on the brick bank and boardslide the inside of the bench, but couldn’t get my weight right.  I got a few axle stalls on the mellow part of the jersey barrier then started trying a run.  Wallie into the north shallow bowl thing, axle stall on the mellow jersey barrier then back 50 the east wall quarterpipe.  Pretty fun.  I closed the day be getting pink slipped by Fuzz in SKATE.  Although I did land the worst 360 and fakie 360 flips ever done.

skate journal: Aurora park with Nullers (oct 29)

Posted in Skate Journal on October 30th, 2008 by corpo

Mikey, Chad, Riley, Bernie and I headed to Aurora park on a super nice warm day.  I had the day off work and after selling some boards we went to Aurora park.  Riley, Mikey and Chad skated the kicker to mellow bank so ridiculously good.  Riley put down all types of grabs before moving on to a second try kickflip that was textbook.  Mikey put down a pop shove in seconds and a nollie heel shortly after.  A few tries later Riley put down the steeziest backside flip I’ve ever seen.  So ridiculous.  I was having one of those really timid days where I was too tired to put much energy into my skating.  When I’m tired I suck at skating.  I tried a run where I’d boardslide the flatbar, manual down this ledge thing and kickflip the hip.  I never quite linked all three together.  Doh.  I sucked, but watching the Nullers kill it was fun.
