skate journal: Parker skatepark with Jason, Nate and Matt P

Posted in Skate Journal on November 6th, 2009 by corpo

After stopping at 303 we made the long drive through suburban wasteland to Parker where we met up with Matt P who is asking about Null. Will it happen?  Maybe, he rips.  Anyways, Jason, Nate and I got there first and it was way colder then Boulder.  Burr.  We started out in the little q-pipe/colorado flag pipe area.  Jason immediately had 20 foot long front 5-0s that were ridiculous.  I took awhile to warm up as usual but Matt showed up and did like 5 tricks down the big rail/hubba for his warmup.  Nice.  Nate, Jason and I kept skating around and doing our stuff.  I got a front 50 on the tall pier 7 ledge first try to cheer me up a bit.  Jason did noseslide to manny first try on the double manny pad thing.  So sick.  Nate almost got front 50 front 180 fakie nose manual.  It’s hard to remember what all we were doing as it seemed like we never really skated one thing.  It ruled that no one was there and you could skate whatever.  On the ledge I had a few decent crooked grinds, front 50 back 180 and an accidental front smith front 180.  Basically I almost slid out but ended up pivoting on the front wheels.  That’s an over 30 make for sure.  Ha.  Toward the end Nate and I ollied off the kickers which was a blast.  Jason was blasting 5-0s both ways around the tight corner.  So sick.  Super fun session want to do it again.

Dinosaur Jr – Get Me

This song killed it at both shows.  Song of the day.  Concert of the year.  Album of the year.  Band of the last two centuries.

skate journal: Downtown Boulder exploring with Nate (Nov 2, 2009)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 3rd, 2009 by corpo

Met up with Nate after a day of feeling nauseous and dizzy at Petes downtown Boulder.  It was cold and definitely probably not a good idea to go skating.  It ended up being fun though.  We started off hitting the NE side of Pearl St which we’ve never scoped before.  Didn’t really find anything other than a weird plaque thing that we skated for awhile.  You could ollie onto it and to rock fakies if you were Nate.  If you were me you would ollie onto it then shoot your board out and fall on your back while your board flies into traffic.  I’m pretty sure my slams were more entertaining to watch.  Especially to the Jeep that drove by right as a rifled a board at them.  Both Nate and I dropped in on it too and somehow got all 4 wheels down when it was about 2 feet long.  We moved over to a new building that didn’t have much to offer other then some curb high mannies and a drop that I rode off of.  I was having one of those nights were my legs refuse to leave the ground when I ollie.  Not so fun.  We tried wallrides on this new bank to wall that needs to be quickcreted so bad.  Neither of us got them.  We didn’t really seem to hit much for awhile after this and then ended up at Boulder High.  We putzed around for awhile before ending up trying a run of ollie the 4 stair then gap to manny the flat gap.  It took me a few tries to land the 4 stair, but I still managed to somehow beat Nate to getting the gap to manny.  That has to be the first time I’ve ever beat Nate to a manny trick.  Next we started trying this weird flat gap that had all kinds of dirt and leaves in the way.  Nate put it down first and slammed hard.  He got up, brushed himself off and did it again, but stomped it clean.  Rad.  Next up we ended up at the dumb little banked curb on Broadway.  Nate did a million pivots to fakie and I did one.  Lastly we ended up at St Julien and skated the little wood crate manny pad that has been there forever.  Nate did some rad tricks like manny front 180 up, nose manny both up and down and front 180 fakie nose manual down.  I got a manny up followed by a manny down then gave into the dizziness sick feeling and called it a night.  Fun times skating a lot of new/different stuff.

DINOSAUR JR KILLED IT

Posted in Concert Reviews, Dinosaur Jr is the greatest band ever on November 2nd, 2009 by corpo

pizzaPre Dinosaur Jr Pizza fest in Boulder.  I only ate one slice.  Sorry Gordon.lobbiecoreLou Barlow & The Missingmen.  Wasn’t so hyped on the Boulder show, but they killed it in Ft Collins.the greatest band of all timej mascisA couple photos from the Boulder show.  Both shows were awesome.  The setlists were quite a bit different.  The highlights from the Boulder show for me were Thumb, Forget The Swan, Raisons, Pieces, I Want You To Know and surprisingly Freak Scene.little jackLittle Jack was there.reedReed was there too and even bought me a beer.  Sick! Here’s the setlist for the Fort Collins show:Thumb
Leper
Kracked
Imagination Blind
Get Me
Pieces
Plans
Pick Me Up
Feel the Pain
Over It
Little Fury Things
The Wagon
Freak Scene
Gargoyleencore:No BonesThe LungOn a scale of 1 – 10 Ft Collins was a 50.  In the top 5 shows I’ve seen in my life.  It was so good that no one could really speak after it was done.  They didn’t play my dream setlist but they did play my request of Leper for Zach.  So sick.  The sound at Aggies was much better and it was way louder.  Ft Collins rules.  They played Gargolye for a long time and ended it with this crazy noise that seemed like it would blow out an amp.  Between songs they jammed more then I’ve ever seen and seemed as happy as ever.  I hope they keep it going.

Ollie snowboarding

Posted in Me Me Me on November 2nd, 2009 by corpo

ollieOllie all of a sudden is really into snowboarding mainly due to our neighbors having a snowboard video game.  But he finally decided it’s time to stand up on his plastic snowboard he got a few years ago from Santa.  His first time off the jump he landed it.  Then he slammed for awhile.  Then he landed all of them.  Fun times.

skate journal: Louisville/Rock Creek (Nov 1, 2009)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 2nd, 2009 by corpo

I met up with Rob and Neil at Louisville Skatepark with no late night partying or silly outfits to use as excuses.  Yes, after 3 nights of raging I went to sleep before my kids had even finished the official count on their halloween candy.  Felt great.  We started a game of SKATE right away that Rob won.  I think I got a 360 flip in it though. But maybe that was the second one.  It was a good warm up and we headed over to Rock Creek to meet up with Lazer, Brian and Kurt.  Not so fast though.  On the way there I barely rear ended a lady at a light.  Ugh.  No damage to the cars save some minor scratches on plastic.  Luckily no one was hurt.  The lady had started accelerating at a green light then totally hit the brakes for some reason.  I guess she was from out of town and confused what a green light means.  Ugh.I was feeling a bit jittery, but once again Brian ruled it and decided a game of skate on the pyramid bank was in order.  We did some dumb tricks and some fun ones.  Brian won it with tricks like frontside 540 kickturn, blunt to staple gun, etc.  But the story of the session was that I got a letter on him with a front rock. Yes, Mr One Foot Front Rock.  Ha.  Actually it was nothing though and we started skating the ramp after that.  Rob, Brian and Lazer were ripping as usual.  Rob and I shook our heads in disbelief at how rad Lazer’s opening run was.  Dude’s got it.  I tried a lot of front smith grinds and maybe landed a few.  Or maybe they were just slasher grinds I don’t know.  I got a fakie pivot axle stall which I normally take to fakie on Rampy, but at least I finally got into it.  Brian slammed on his bad hip and the ramp session pretty much ended.  I skated flatground for awhile and landed a fakie treflip for the first time in forever.  Felt really good.  Got a 360 flip or two as well and tried to round it out with a nollie tre, but no love there.  I also got a front 5-0 shove on the ledge.  Sweet.  Feels so good to skate with no concerns of what should be filmed.

skate journal: Lord Humongous at the Boulder Skatepark Halloween Contest (Oct 31, 2009)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 2nd, 2009 by corpo

That is me. I can’t believe it either. I made somewhat of a conscience effort to try and get of out Halloween Havoc, but Brian is just to awesome and kept on me. After another night of Dinosaur Jr destroying all things music I ended up at the Boulder park looking like that. The Trick Factory all went with a Road Warrior Theme and I was to be Lord Humongous. But hey, at least I refused to go without jeans. See more pics of everyone else on Jack’s lassfullofshit blog. So as you can probably guess I was pretty weirded out looking like that and skating was not easy. Everytime I ollied I the belt got me in the nuts. That doesn’t mean I didn’t get Little Jack to SKA in a game of SKATE. Granted though he was trying the hardest tricks I’ve never seen him do before. His final trick was the Pat Hickey – switch front shove late flip. For the most part I didn’t skate much. Jason and I skated the curbs for awhile, but that was it. After the contest was over and the wind turned me into an ice cube I ditched the Humongous gear and skated in the Boulder park for at least 4 runs which was long enough to never land a no comply bigspin.

skate journal: Flatground in front of the house (Oct 30, 2009)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 2nd, 2009 by corpo

Tired from the night before (Dinosaur Jr!!!!), but with a big grin of course, I woke up slightly before noon, went to Meta, then hit some flatground until Ollie got out of school.  I tried a bunch of 360 flips, but only landed one.  And it happened to be one that I dedicated to Liz as she walked by.  Sweet, she probably thinks I have them on lock now.  I was really tired/lazy so I didn’t put much effort in and there was still quite a bit of snow on the edges of the road.  All made for a mellow, but fun session.  Got a few decent heelflips, tried a lot of switch f/s flip and nollie heels.  Hopefully the stars will align at some point and I start landing those.  At the end I landed a nollie tre and called it a day.  Well, ‘landed’ is a stretch.  It’s quite a bit like the nollie tre in my Off The Couch part, but without the scrolling text making fun of myself.

skate journal: pre-Dinosaur Jr Rampy session (Oct 29, 2009)

Posted in Skate Journal on November 2nd, 2009 by corpo

Gordon, Brian, Nate and I were skating as others gathered to eat pizza.  Gordon did 100 tricks again in 30 seconds.  Ridiculous.  He also introduced Rampy to front blunts.  He did so many of those board to pivot tricks that I thought they were easy enough to try.  I kinda landed a rock ‘n roll with a front truck bash, but it wasn’t the pivot thing I was going for.  Oh well, cool.  I skated much better than the day before, but still couldn’t get the fakie pivot to fakie like I had for about one session.  Nate was trying some hard tricks and getting close.  Brian was killing it too.  Between him and Gordon I think basically every trick was done.  Time for Dinosaur Jr!!!!!
