skate journal: stubborns saturday wallride, ledge and 3 stair (oct 6, 2018)

Crew collected and rolled to Denver in Fuzz’s off road mobile. It was Jack, Sean, Dave, Fuzz and me. First spot was the carwash wallride spot kind of for Dave, but he had remembered it pretty differently than it is. Jack did some tall wallrides immediately. Then to manual and back 180 out. Dave did some good wallrides too. Then Dave and I did the wallie nollie. Fuzz chilled and took photos. Sean setup a board then put together a smooth line. I was filming at this point and Jack was getting close to a wallride shove wallride and Dave close to a wallride kickflip line when we got the boot. Dude was pretty upset considering absolutely no damage was being done. Oh well.

So we went to this nearby ledge where we ended up staying put. I had wanted to switch noseslide off the 3 stair, but never really committed to it and was not feeling confident at all. I couldn’t even do kickflips on flat. Sean was going 100mph and rattling off some smooth tailslides and stuff. Jack was putting together some crazy combos. Fuzz too. Dave came through with some solid front 50 variations to firecracker. Sean was going so fast I thought he could pop his fakie tailslide past the stairs. Jack’s did back tail then back 3 and then a back tail shove to manual first try. Insane. I slowly gained some confidence and was going for switch cheater front nose then switch 180. It took awhile, but I got it. The whole time I was wanting a bigger setup. Fuzz got halfcab noseslide then back 180, fakie 50 then switch 180. Solid. Then we bolted home.

(setup 8.25 null lazer deck, thunder 148 lights, venom 88a bushings, 2 washers inside each axle, 51mm v1 bones stf wheels, new balance numeric black 345 size 12, footprint flat 5mm insoles)
(pain level 1/10 not any pain, but felt very awkward on my board)

skate journal: little longmont park again with dave on a nice day (oct 5, 2018)

Got to take another half day at work. It was another beautiful day, although at the end of the session it got very windy. There was another dude when we showed up. His girlfriend was sitting on one of the bump to ledges watching as he hucked some tech flyouts. He didn’t speak much, but he was fine to skate with. Warming up took a bit. I had a goal of tailslide over the hip then 360 flip to fakie the next bank. After taking a bit to do a kickflip to fakie and getting a first try back kickflip on the bank I went in on it. I was annoyed with how small my board was feeling. Dave was warming up with slides over the hip, 180s, did a cool line with a fakie ollie to front 50 down the little hubba. We played with our lines and some other stuff in between then started taking turns filming each other. Dave was trying a line of back 50 the ledge then the ollie on to boardslide, but couldn’t consistently get the back 50. Maybe because the angle was totally insane. But write this day down in history because I got my front tail – 360 flip line before Dave got his line. This might be the first time I did something remotely quick. Dave’s switch 360 boneless over the rail was insane. I tried several ollies over the other rail and it seemed more doable this time around, but I still never committed. I blame the wind somewhat. My other line was supposed to end with halfcab noseslide, but after landing the kickflip so cleanly (for me) I just went with the cheater switch front nose. I had tried a couple crooks and felt very uncomfortable trying them. Weird. Then the wind kicked in heavy and it was time to leave anyway.

(pain level 3/10 right ankle still a little weird)
