skate journal: square house old dudes (feb 28, 2021)

After a long cold day of cleaning the garage in preparation of more boards coming (hopefully?!?!) I went to Square House right after dinner. The crew was Brian, Kevin, Dave, Bryan and me. Warming up was less awkward having been there a couple weeks ago. Kevin was all over the place quickly. He did the back 50 quick foot uphill grind, but never quite got the crook. Fuller warmed up in the miniramp. Brian chilled for awhile. The other Bryan had some cool manuals across the pyramid. Noseslides and crooks for me on the bump to box felt way easier than last time. Kevin and Dave were ollieing over the “channel” and ATVing it. Brian joined us and had a sick frontside grind over channel, treated us with the front rock slip, tough guy on the vert window. Bryan did a fakie bigspin tail on the little manny pad with the ledge. Kevin was really ripping everything it’s hard to remember but he unleashed a lot of tricks on the bump to ledge, even a fast back 50 to rock fakie the extension. Kevin, Brian and Dave skate the vert window qp. Kevin got some backside grinds. Dave did a nosegrab tail skid (I have no idea if this is the real name), Brian got close to front slash and did a few tough guys. When I wasn’t standing in someones way I was posing treflips to fakie on the bank and trying to switch noseslide the hubba. I would get it in a line with a crook, but didn’t slide the whole thing. I almost got b/s flip after that which would have been such a good line for me. Instead I spent the rest of the session just trying to b/s flip the hip and finally got a lame one. Dave as rolling in everywhre, had front 50s on the bump to ledge and even back 180’d out, front boards to fakie, front shove the hip. Kevin almost had nollie back shove the hip. Bryan had a nice front tail, almost got fakie bigspin tail the bump to ledge, came real close to a front 360 weird flip. Fun session. Could have gone for landing tricks quicker and not being so sore. Oh and the clip above is only my phone footage, there is more on Kevin’s waiting for him to post.

skate journal: more curb with jake, then rocky mountain with dave and the wind (feb 27, 2021)

After letting things warm up Jake and I rolled over to the og curb. Jake wanted to do back tail, I had not real plan and just kinda hucked a bunch of things. Jake pretty much went into back tails right away and would get a few of them. I couldn’t get a kick back 50 or tail, but some huck highlights were front nosepick to disaster, bennett stall (supposed to be back 180 fakie 50 but who cares), back pivot shove and another mediocre nollie back tail shove.

Then I went to Longmont to meet Dave at the somehow dry Longmont EMB. Although the melting snow did start to form puddles that messed with things a little. Dave was doing these cool pivot stalls on a bank median and trying to grind down in switch crook. It was unreal. There was a puddle making the approach hard so he didn’t want to film it. Next time for sure. He would also go on to nollie into it later. I warmed up with some nollie bigspins on the bank and switch noseslides on the ledge. I battled front 50s for awhile and would never get one. The wind had started making that direction very hard to skate. I got on really bad accidental 5-0. I got one or two kickflips on the bank and a crooks or too. Dave was doing some rad front 50 180s on the curb where he gapped over a puddle then followed it up with fakie varial flip. Then we ran up a brick median and rolled down backwards. Man that was way scarier than it should be, but a fun challenge to end the day on.
