skate journal: crowded dog park with rob on a warm afternoon (oct 20, 2022)

Posted in Skate Journal on October 21st, 2022 by corpo

After work I met up with Rob at dog park. It was crowded, but not with a lot of total shredders. I found myself getting so annoyed at times as kids would not look ahead at all and just go and get in the way. I tried some kinda hard tricks for me at times, I just didn’t land them. Nosegrind 180 on the curb, ollie the broken cement wedges and slappy crook back 180 which I never pulled the trigger on although it did feel possible. Rob had a couple shove nosegrinds, halfcab back 50 back 180, manuals, nose manuals, was looking really good out there.

skate journal: premiere day broomfield session (oct 16, 2022)

Posted in setup change, Skate Journal on October 21st, 2022 by corpo

After a fun hike with the Nebraska crew I swapped vans at square house and met up with people at Broomfield park. I was not very focused and obviously distracted by the upcoming event. The only thing I remember doing was trying crooks and then treflips for a long time. Never got the treflip. Was trying 8.5 with Indy 149s and basically hated it. Played a game of SKATE with Cass where I didn’t land anything it seemed like, but still won with f/s halfcab heel. Rob was shredding, I saw a shove lipslide. Richard was there and did a super fast kick back nosegrind so perfectly. Sean was making everything look easy. Garrett, Joe, Hayden, Bo, everyone was skating good. Then it was time to bounce and pick up Jack and get the party started.

skate journal: broomfield evening session with carleigh and more (oct 18, 2022)

Feeling pretty exhausted still but wanting to skate with Carleigh before she left Paul picked me up and we met up with Dave, Darin and others. I had a Christmas complete. My reward for finishing Something. It was an 8.5 with 51mm PJ wheels and hollow Ace 55s. I liked it, but I didn’t love it. Popping was hard. I got close to noseslide 270 shoves and did a sloppy fakie bigflip out of the bank, but other than that was pretty lackluster for me. Carleigh was lofting ollies into the bank and doing front and back disasters on the brick qp, boardslides, kickflips. Ripping. Paul is really good, was back 50’ing the black ledge before I had even pushed. He went on to do a lot more tricks like back 50 front 180, fakie tails both ways. Dave had some poppy nollies into the bank, nollie front 180s out of it, almost nose manual the black box, there’s a lot more, but I’m forgetting. Darin, Justin, Kyler, other Tuesday night locals were there charging it. Pretty fun session.

skate journal: frederick and lafayette with lots of people (oct 15, 2022)

Posted in Skate Journal on October 20th, 2022 by corpo

If I remember correctly the crew at Frederick was Joe, Eric, Davi, Rob then Brian and Hayden. Rob, Joe and I tried front shoves to fakie on the mellow bank to begin. Joe got a bunch, but they weren’t clean. I slammed super hard on one and hurt my neck again. Rob did one perfectly then went on to kill the bank to curb. I couldn’t get a halfcab flip, Joe got fakie varial flip. More highlights in random order. Brian ollieing up and down the euro kickers and Rob getting his back up. Eric boardslid the long copy/paste flatbar. I ollied up the ledge with Joe’s board and then mine. Tried to do a train off the kicker with Joe doing front shove, me doing kickflip, Rob back 180 and Brian a cool powerslide disaster thingy. I would get a couple good feeling kickflips though and followed one with a crooks on the ledge. Davi learned how to do hippy jumps almost on accident after rolling down the double ledges. Rob had some sick boardslide transfers. Hayden so casually killed it. Back smith the bump to ledge, manual back 180 the pad, halfcab manual revert to fakie manual. Also good seeing Peyton shredding again doing his crazy tricks.

After some lunch we ended up at Lafayette. I was very sore so I hucked kickflip bank rides for a while. I was close to a couple, but ended up giving up. My head just wasn’t in the game. Also did a very slow noseslide down the hubba. We had lost Hayden and Rob, but gained Cass. Davi had gotten hurt dropping into the bowl at the end of the Fred session so he was out. Eric did his dream of rock to fakie on the tooth. So sick. Joe took the whole session to get front shove bank ride, but it was sick. He had also 50’d the hubba. Cass had some good front noses and bertlemanns. Brian went off with the line at the end which was so sick. I guess it’s a front hurricane? Fun times, fun crews.

skate journal: valmont and dog park after work with cass and rob (oct 14, 2022)

Posted in setup change, Skate Journal on October 20th, 2022 by corpo

Another entry well after the fact and a big premiere later. Cass and I went over to Valmont to get warmed up. Had a couple of kickflips when we went in on the top little bowl area that is super hard to skate. Some back 50s and ollies went down. I do wish there was more flat coping instead of the obnoxious slope. Still, it was fun to skate it differently. Back at the ledges we got a status report from Rob who said he had gotten shove lipslide. Sick! I had one decent feeling crooks and couldn’t fakie 50 the bench.  Had a couple fun slappy front crooks.  Cass was trying some fakie back 50s, doing good regular back 50s.

skate journal: dog park after work blah (oct 13, 2022)

Posted in setup change, Skate Journal on October 20th, 2022 by corpo

I’m writing this one week after the fact and a huge video premiere later so it’s not going to have much. I had taken a few notes. I had switched to venture 5.8s and hated every second of it. The dog park was heated. Rob and I went over to the skatepark. My only notes are that I did a kickflip on the mellow bank, the rainbow grind and couldn’t get a good grind on the pond qp. After Rob left I went back to the ledges and putzed around for a bit before having a fun little line of wallie the corner of the barrier then boardslide the other end of it.

skate journal: short tennis court before dark with dave (oct 11, 2022)

Posted in Skate Journal on October 13th, 2022 by corpo

After work and a quick nap I met up with Dave at the nearby tennis court spot. There were a couple younger kids there initially, but they left. Things were arranged oddly, but we just skated them as is and it ended up being pretty fun. I had some new shoes and went for vulcs this time around and they felt super weird and I lacked any pop. There was a weird ride on round bar that was super low. Dave would do some good ride on grinds. I was too scared of it. I could barely ollie it even though it was only a few inches tall. There was a launch ramp over a little box which became our main physical challenge. We would both get it in lines a couple of times and it was fun. Basically we just rolled off it with speed to clear it, no cool high ollies or grabs. We both did some lines that were pretty good I thought. Although mine were full of tic tacs and no speed. I struggled with crooks again, partly because the ledges are sticky. Dave had a lot of kickflips, shoves, halfcab off the lower launch ramp, front 50 the ledge 2nd try, front noses. He was ripping. I couldn’t get halfcab flip, but got first try sketchy fakie bigflip. I liked some switch front noseslides, a fun front 180 off the lower launch ramp and a fakie 50 on the main ledge. Fun session.

skate journal: quick skate break from the editing madness at bear creek elementary (oct 9, 2022)

Posted in Skate Journal on October 10th, 2022 by corpo

On a beautiful fall day I dashed out shortly before sunset to get some skating in after completing a rough draft of Something. I got in my car and started driving towards Southern Hills but ended up here instead. It has some random stuff and it was kind of fun. I just pushed around the school a bit then started lining out some stuff the way I do. Had a fun gap to axle, ollied up a curb a few times to try and do a backside flip on a micro hip, had a few basic flippers, couldn’t ollie onto the weird ledge in the back. It was hard to focus on skating through, everything felt surreal, like I should be editing my skating rather than actually skating. Hard to explain, only those that have made a skate video would probably understand. I really did hate the 440s the last two days.

skate journal: delirious dog park editing break (oct 8, 2022)

Posted in Skate Journal on October 10th, 2022 by corpo

After doing some editing in the morning I met up with Jake, Cass, Rob, Hayden, Bo at Valmont / dog park. We started at Valmont. Jake did pole jam. Cass and I did frontside flips. One of mine might have even turned a whole 90 degrees. The riff raff was out of control. A lady was taking a phone call from the ledge, strider kids in moto cross helmets. I did the little line of ollie the euro, manual the volcano, back 50 the high to low qp.

So we didn’t last too long and went over to dog park. Rob had gone over there earlier and was totally shredding. I think it’s some of the best he’s skated in recent history. Nose manual front 180s around the C ledge, nollie front lip the low flat bar, halfcab 50s, big pops off the philly kicker. Jake was ripping too I saw lines with nollie back tails, front boards, back 50s. Cass with the casual front noseslides, 50s, back 180 50s. Jake, Cass and I played a game of SKATE. Well, Cass and I started and I got a letter on front shove or something and then Jake came so we reset. It was a good game, one of my better ones in a while. Cass did a first try treflip and I got his back. It made me so happy. Like one barely moving flip trick was all I need to make me so happy. I would go on to get halfcab flip, heelflip and a few more and somehow win the game. Hayden and Bo had shown up. Bo was unable to get the nose manual on the table. Bo, Hayden and I tried flip tricks off the mellow kicker. Hayden got switch heel, Bo was close to switch varial heel, I was close to backside flip. A lot more went down, but I forget as it was all erased when I got home and went into another editing marathon.

skate journal: quick flatground friday 10×10 (oct 7, 2022)

Posted in Skate Journal on October 10th, 2022 by corpo

I had about an hour after work and before Nullers were going to show up to work on Something. So I hit up Noè and asked for a 10×10 list. This is what he gave me:

Nollie tre, bigflip, switch flip, switch frontside flip, nollie back heel, fakie tre, fakie bigger flip, backside flip, varial kickflip, nollie heel flip

YIKES! I should also mention it was cold, down in the 40s. But it felt good. I warmed up and got a few kickflips before I started the list. I didn’t do the tricks in that order, but I did huck a couple like switch flip and nollie heel at the start to get warmed up. I would only get backside flip, varial flip and fakie bigflip. But I was close to the other ones I’ve done before like nollie tre, fakie tre. Honestly every trick felt somewhat doable, bigflips especially. Felt good to skate a little.
